Thanks chaps  :)

It's an early update for day 3:

Cutting out completed

Some of the scored lines needed opening up, which was done by using the side of the point of a craft blade as a gouge/chisel

Bits that had been glued together yesterday could be worked on today, so the wing and tail pieces were sliced with the craft knife, filed, then scraped (rough polished) with the scalpel. The sides of the fuselage were glued to the floor for working on tomorrow.  Incidentally, to best ensure that mirrored sides matched, they were offered up to each other then trimmed before fitting.

It's worth noting that this plane is small, with a wingspan of 25 feet that's just over 4 of me (or 2 Jimbibblys or 8 Malamutes).  One potential problem with the size is fitting a power source for LEDs : I'd hoped to put it into the fuselage but it seems like there won't be enough room.

I admire you. I wouldn't have the energy to scratch-build a plane you can buy a kit of. I'd want to go the easy way.

Guess that wouldn't really be in the spirit of "Build Something" though, would it?  lol

What's the difference between that and using a ready made template like you're doing now, though?  ;D

I've always been intimidated when scratch building air planes, so I will follow this build with interest.

Pah!

 :D

Seriously though, if plans are available it makes sense to use them.  I was going to buy a 1/72 model kit for its plans to scale up and just by chance discovered the Fiddlers Green alternative. Yay for my good fortune  ;)  lol

Back in the early days of LAF I built and painted up the Schneider.

I am 99% sure that the same firm does a Tabloid using mostly the same parts. They are effectively the same plane apart from the undercarriage, after all.

Can't wait to see your finished effort, SI.

Thanks chaps

Very nicely done P - mine I think will look a bit smaller.

Nice sketches TSG -mine will be a less catastrophic impact ... More of an emergency landing in a meadow resulting in a bit of a down nose.... Definitely survivable.
