Opium War question...
« on: February 01, 2015, 10:33:31 AM »
Well...

for once the super historian is in a little quandary...  lol I have a nice friend... she likes miniatures and I want to paint some for her, I am finishing a small Lion Rampant medieval retinue for her, but...

it happens that her family is from the second flag (white) of the Manchu Imperial Family...  thus being a descendant of the brother of the first Ch'ing emperor ;) thus I want to do something related to Manchu history....

Anyway  because I decided to do also two small forces for Sharp Practice (well she is doing conflict simulations in KCL so she like to play wargames) based on the opium war... thus what miniatures (15 and/or 28) do rest of this nice congregation of fellow wargamers suggests?

I would suggest Foundry for now as they have the most comprehensive range I believe although they are on the small side being Perry sculpts in 25mm.

I'll second James' recommendation of Foundry - and the entire line is available now. TVAG does some outstanding banners for both sides as well.

Ok, for the british... Bell top shako of havelock? I have seen contemporary illustrations of both.

I am still undecided between 15mm Black Hat miniatures for the british + Khurasan Manchu or 28mm Foundry Manchus/british plus some additions from Mutineers or Studio Miniatures.

15mm is cheaper (she is an imperial descendant not me... and as much she claim her family is much poorer now... they are still upper class in China... especially considering the places she treat me for dinner...) so I can do more, 28mm is more impressive.
