Interesting Novel find
« on: 05 February 2015, 12:49:48 AM »
Hello all, just stumbled onto this series of novels called "The Donner Grim Adventures", here is the link to the book (the website won't let me download the image of the cover).

A description from the page:
"Nazis, Norse Gods, and Lovecraftian monsters: what more could you ask in an action & adventure novel set in the midst of World War 2"

http://www.matnastos.net/2015/02/the-unweaving-donner-grimm-adventures-book-2/

I'm thinking of picking it up

Cheers,
 Damien

I thought I'd pop into this thread and say "hi."

If any of you  guys do check out the The Donner Grimm book, I'd love to hear what you think. I tried to write something fun that fans like me would enjoy. I've been a gamer (RPGs, wargames) since the late 70s and it has really fueled my desire to be a storyteller.

In terms of research, I went into it pretty heavily, although history has to change as a course of the stories just by the nature of fantasy/sci-fi elements being introduced. The first novel follows pretty closely to what happened in '42 with the UK-sponsored Operation Anthropoid -- well, up until Odin appears or the minions of the Great Old Ones attack.  :D  That said, I'm always interested in hearing where I messed up (including a typo in a first draft posted online as a preview where something should be "Scots Guards"). One of the cool things about ebooks is that changes can be easily made and re-released.

Here is a shot of the cover to book one (just because I saw someone mention it):

Welcome, it's always good to see an author appearing here (specially one of Weird War fiction, lol). Just a quick question - are the books only available on Kindle? I'm asking because Amazon doesn't accept Paypal and I'm used to buying ebooks using it and not my credit card.

They're exclusive on Kindle for about 2 more weeks and then will be available everywhere Nook, Kobo, DrivethruFictions, Smashwords, and for direct download on my site. The sequel is being finished up now and will be out in March.

I'm a Weird War (and weird fiction in general) addict. I read everything I can get my hands on -- even sourcebooks for RPGs I don't actively play. There's just not enough material out there for me to buy!

Thanks for info. I just need to wait 2 weeks then ;) I'll do a review as soon as I read it.

Hello Mr. Nastos welcome to the forum, as Predatorpt already mentioned it is nice when authors stop by the forum and talk about their books/projects. Stop by as often as you can and give us updates.

Cheers,

ESPECIALLY when they can handle criticism as deftly as you.  ;)

Not entirely my cuppa, but I am intrigued.

"I read everything I can get my hands on -- even sourcebooks for RPGs I don't actively play." Okay, to THAT I can relate!

I'm up for any constructive criticism. I look at it like this: if it makes the book better then I can take full credit for the brilliance! :D

Bought it! I wanted to buy it directly from you, but an Ebook of $3.99 with a shipping charge of $17 is a bit too much for my wallet  lol And I couldn't find any way to go past that shipping charge, so I had to opt for Smashwords. I'm planning on reading it in a couple of days  o_o

DOH! No clue why it is set to have shipping. I'll get that fixed and thanks for pointing it out. It's been a looooong weekend!

It's all fixed. When I was setting up the book to go live, for some reason it was set as a physical product. I'd blame the system but I have to assume it was my own lack of intelligence that made the error.
