XCOM TABLETOP WARGAME - Operation Hidden Hand (picture heavy)
« on: 09 February 2015, 11:05:12 PM »
Like many others I have been impressed by how good XCOM enemy unknown is and how like a tabletop game the combat-missions are...

So heres my try at transferring the Electronic game to the table-top... the full blog including the intro is here..

http://captaingeneral.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/x-com-tabletop-game.html

THE COUNCIL OF NATIONS HAS AUTHORISED THE
XCOM PROJECT
Operation Hidden Hand
"The US Government has asked for our help. Unidentified forces have attacked a downtown quarter of New York and panic has ensued - Our mission is to secure the area...."

I want a good clean disperal this time!

The squad dash for cover...

Using ovwewatch..

Dashing to investigate new strange smoking structures, what has happened to these poor Devils?

Alien life on Earth?! ...

A desperate firefight ensues..

Sectoids are hit...

The Sectoids use Plasma beams to good effect...

Thanks to mysterious mind melds!

With two squaddies bleeding out grenades are the only option..

This poor squaddie gets a nasty surprise behind the school bus

The remaining squaddies throw caution to the wind and charge forward to finish off the remaining Sectoids hoping to clear the streets before their buddies bleed out!

By the skin of their teeth (and the lt grenade they manage it..

The Alien threat has been eliminated
Six Aliens dead and One trooper killed, but two more critically wounded
the dropship arrives to gather what's left of the squad.
The First Contact had been Bloody, and tactics will need to be revised in future, The remaining troopers have gained vital experience and will be promoted accordingly ...

Good terrain anf miniatures! I recognize the Space Crusade doors acting as pods, but where do the street tiles come from?

Yay X-COM!!  :-*

Looks like a great and tense game there. Nothing like a good ol' Terror Mission eh?

Very nice terrain and minis too. From what I can see, there's a GW Valkyrie in there, Elysian Drop Troops, Griffin Greys (indeed long OOP), Space Crusade doors, Dropzone Commander buildings and I also see some Infinity tokens in there. A regular patchwork of minis, and they all combine into a coherent total. Even the way out of scale DZC buildings work as a backdrop.

I also really love the victims; how did you do those? They look great.

What rules set did you use?

Oh, and did I mention: Yay X-COM!! :D
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Thanks every one and good spotting all around  ;)
Yes here a cast list:
Elysians
Valkyrie
Dropzone tower blocks
Pegasus gothic ruins
Various toy vehicles from pound shops, ebay etc.
The board is from Warsmith (via Kickstarter)
Sectoid are indeed Griffin Models
Well done is completely forgotten - they've been in a box for a while

The Rules are my own concoction I call them Combat X-ray  :)
I'll let you know when they are a bit more presentable and they'll be free to LAF
Lastly the victims are sculpting dollies
Dipped in green paint and green flock!😄

Next time we'll see promotions for the Humans and Thin men for the Aliens

Excelletn setup here, both the city and the miniatures. I have to remove one point though, because you dared to cut these irreplaceable Space Crusade Doors!  :'( ;)
