JOMSVIKINGS [Better Photos Added)
« on: March 20, 2015, 12:41:39 AM »
I've been slowly working away on a Jomsviking warband for the last couple of months. It's now nearly at a point where I'm happy to call it finished. I imagine this thread will get updates of the various units as I complete them, at least that's the aim anyway.

The army I am working on will double up as either 6 points for Saga or 24 for Lion Rampant.

To keep you interested here is a picture of my leader

I intend to use him as Thorkell the Tall, although he could be any suitably cheery looking Viking.

Comment are welcomed and much appreciated.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I spent most of yesterday working on the rest of the warband I just have to get some half decent pictures of them as they are completed.

More Vikings. Not necessarily part of my Jomsviking warband but bits and pieces I have been working on.

A warrior or hero.

Another hero.

This one is a minor conversion of Gripping Beast's Egil Skallagrimsson. I prefer him with hair.
I'm considering adding some tattoos to his arms and maybe fancying up his trousers and cloak.

This guy is probably going to become an objective of some sort given his passive stance. Probably a trader or merchant to escort/rob.

Looking very nice indeed.

Great work on the stripes, but that is a strange looking figure... Great legs, nice stance, good face... But the parts don't seem to hang together quite right, and the head looks too big  :?

Is it a 'late period' Gripping Beast miniature? (I think their early stuff was so much better... )

Thanks.
He's one of their newer Age of Arthur minis that they did a few years ago. There was quite a bit of odd anatomy going on with those sculpts but also some lovely figures too. I think this one is actually one of the nicer ones, it could be the angle of my photo that's making him look a bit bubble headed.

It's one of Saopy's Saxons. It's actually a really lovely naturally posed mini- must be that the camera is slanted down foreshortening the miniature?

So here is the first unit of warriors. I have been painting the figures so that I have enough for both a 6 point Saga warband and a 24 point Lion Rampant force. I will display them as they would be for Saga though.

I really need to improve on my photography skills but these should give you an idea. I'm also a bit unsure of the shield designs. All are hand painted and include a rune with a warlike or relevant meaning (I believe), so please let me know your thoughts.

Warriors:

And finally a group shot:

Again sorry for the poor picture quality. One day I will get there!

Right, I was altogether pretty unhappy with my last batch of photos, however with invaluable help of Argonor who set me on the right path I have been able to add some pictures that are far less embarrassing. Thank you Argonor!

So here goes:
(The guy to the right is supposed to be wearing a blue woollen hat, not sure that come across well in this photo. Also the hand print has one too many finger, just noticed that now... woops!)

I hope that you will agree that these are significantly better than the others. Please do feel free to comment.
