Hi All,

here are some photos of a Perry British soldier in Indian Service Dress. I have 24 of them almost finished as Royal Irish Fusiliers, and I thought I'd push on one to finish him and get comments before I finish the unit.

What does Everyone think?

One thing I did, I mis-understood my reference, and painted all the leggings blue, when it probably should have just been the officer. But, Mike Snook in "Go Strong into the Desert", said that there is a chance the RIF were wearing blue puttees.

Nicely done. A very convincing khaki drab.

Personally, I think the blue is a bit vivid, i've tended to use a darker blue/grey on my NWF Brits, but it could well just be the light in the photo.

Look forward to seeing the rest.

I just used Vallejo Khaki, with a green wash and a drybrush/ refinement of the Khaki.

Are the blankets too blue? Part of it may be the bright sunshine, but I could still tone them down if it looks funny.

EDIT: I just took a quick snap, using flash, right here at my PC desk, and the blue really reflects much more light than the eye sees. I wonder if I should do a gray wash?

Maybe a wash would help tone them down a little?

I know what you mean though, certain colours definitely stand out more once you have taken a photo of the figure.

Very nice job, Anna Elizabeth, and excellent shade of khaki! Since you asked, I will add my voice to Ray Earle's in suggesting the blue is too vibrant, even with the "everything seems brighter in a photograph" qualifier. The greatcoat or blanket-roll is usually depicted as being more of a darker blue-grey, and the puttees are generally not of the exact same shade of blue as the greatcoat. I would tone the puttees down as well, but not in a grayish fashion, just a slightly duller shade of blue, if you choose to keep them blue. I love those Perry "Indian service dress" British infantry, and have several units of them in my Second Afghan War collection. Whether or not you adjust the shades of blue, yours will definitely be well painted!

He looks really nice. I personally use vallejo luftwaffe uniform as a base then lightened with pastel blue. Remember, these are wargames figures and we have have to exaggerate colours at times to make them stand out. If you're happy with the result, that's the way it should be

Good Morning Everyone, and thank you.

I think I will re-coat with Luftwaffe Uniform, I have it here and it won't be that difficult.

The blues I used were Dark Prussian and a highlight of Intense, and in photos it's just too much.

I have to go to the eye doctor and get new eyeglasses today, maybe it'll be easier to pick colors after that. XD

I appreciate the input, I'd like these to be as "correct" as possible.

The switch to the newer blue/grey is much better in my humble opinion.
