Did someone mention my name? I can't believe you started a thread and didn't invite me....

Seriously thought, mutant animal characters are numerous.

Various - Ratmen, Redwall inspired forest creatures

Interloper - Chickens, Termites
Reaper - many different
Impact! - all kinds  Elephants, Platypuses, etc.
Alchemist Miniatures - Catmen
Ainsty - APes
Eureka - apes, monkeys, cats iirc & Moorcockian Beast-masked humans.
Black Orc 100 Kingdoms - Apes
Crocodile Games - Crocs, cats, Hippo iirc
Alternative Armies Flintloque - Austrian Dog humanoids

Perhaps we could start a list of Humanoid/Mutant Animal and Plant miniatures?

Doug Wildey was the main character designer for Thundarr. King Kirby did backgrounds and other incidental stuff no doubt. Many of the villains have a Kirby-esque look to them.

Two volumes of Kirby's Kamandi are in print:

Encouragingly Kamandi has resurfaced a couple times in the last decade after being written off in 1986's Crisis of Infinite Earths. His new home revealed in Grant Morrison's Multiversity is a mash-up of Earth AD and the New Gods - double Kirby goodness!

Old Glory also makes them in 15mm, tucked away in their SuperSystem range.

Not a big fan of revisionist KAMANDI (or New Gods for that matter). So much of Kirby begs for the lead treatment: the Fourth World Bugs, the Trolls sacking Asgard from the Orikal issues of Thor, the Deviants.....the list goes on. I need to write a rule set where the Deviants can confront the Beasts of Granbretan in the Dominion of the Devils while Gene Wolfe's manbeasts from Tracking Song hire out as cannibal mercenaries....

I prefer the classic Earth AD but since Kamandi has been largely absent the last 30 years I take what I can get. The short bit in Multiversity didn't play too loosely with the original format.

You can't be a Kamandi fan and not be excited to see this after all this time!

Sadly Kamandi never made it to that part of the map (Africa). He did reach Australia and the Vortex and have some psychedelic adventures with The Sandman in the two issues in Cancelled Comics Cavalcade.

I'm very curious to know what these creatures/people look like. I don't know the first thing about Jack Kirby or any of that, but the things discussed in this thread sound like the kind of things I'm generally interested in. (Hawkmoon I know, but the rest of it is quite new to me.)

I've largely stayed away from American comics as I'm not much into superheroes. Only in more recent years (since I first checked out the old Conan comics) has it begun to dawn on me that there's a lot of non-superhero adventures/settings mixed in there as well, and that even the superhero comics have a lot of inspirational ideas if you turn a Nelson's to the superheroes themselves. It's still mostly terra incognita to me, though.

You might want to take a look at Brigade Games as they have all sorts of unusual figures including Gorillas with Thompson SMGs and WW2 uniforms.

"Gorillas with Thompson SMGs and WW2 uniforms"

Could you be more specific? I had a look around at Brigade but could not spot them.
