I return to show you the first part of my Ogre Odyssey. No, not a prog rock album, but actual Ogres.

Like all large, multi-part metal miniatures, these are taking far too long to assemble and paint. The first one I've managed to complete is an Ogre hero, to join the adventuring party! I used the Mordheim mercenary ogre for this, as I've always loved the model. Every party needs a tank, and they don't come much tankier than this brute.

Not such a great picture, but I've tried to snap the details of his backpack, which include a captured halfling and a Skaven. Baddies who he's rounded up for the bounty? Or adventuring supplies in case he gets hungry? You decide!

I love that figure, and your painting is really great! I admire the way you paint the hair on his arms, never could do anything that good.

I'm just glad he's wearing his shirt, so I didn't have to paint his back...  lol

And here we go! Finally completed the Ogre trio (that's D3 Ogres for you rulesy guys). All mounted on 30mm Fenris Games bases so they can occupy one square on a standard WHQ board.

A few detail shots below, starting with the main dude, Golgfag himself. Unbelievably, when I went outside to varnish the Ogres, Golgfag took a tumble onto the concrete. Both of his arms broke off, and he took some light chipping, so I had to spend time re-pinning and repainting certain areas, like the horns, which was a royal PITA!

Figured his coat was made from some kind of leathery reptile hide, or maybe even orc-hide.

This guy gives off real "football hooligan" vibes.

And finally, Ogre with a saucepan helmet and (literally) a bloody big bone.

Excellent job on those, they all look great! I like the details you painted in, too, like the stripes on the third fellow’s pants.

Thank you guys! The ogres took ages, but I'm happy with them.

A bonus update now, and breaking my rules somewhat because I rushed it a bit. I have a game tonight, and want to make sure I've got as big a variety of warriors as possible to choose from, and that means getting YET ANOTHER BLOODY ELF PAINTED!  >:(  lol

So this is the closest I've come to "speed-painting" on this entire project. I squeezed it in over the weekend, so just over 4 hours in total, not my best work but I managed to keep it neat and fairly on point. Might go back and touch up later. Anyhow, the High Elf Ranger is a lovely old Jes Goodwin sculpt, and one of the most interesting game options in Warhammer Quest, so I can't wait to finally see how he plays. I'll try to remember to take some pics of the game!

"Speed-painted" or not, that's nice work there.  I probably spent a similar amount of time on that very same miniature, with far less impressive results.

I agree with DalyDR, that’s excellent work. I think most folks would be putting that at the front of the display cabinet (myself included)!

That's a great Elf.  My buddy picked up that character back in high school when we played Warhammer Quest and I remember him being...far better than my Trollslayer (which inevitably died whenever my buddies fled the dungeon...). lol

*almost* speed-painted, by my notoriously slow standards  lol

Combination of deteriorating eyesight and being incapable of saying "that's enough" means I just take longer than necessary over every figure. 'Tis a curse.

I only remembered to take photos right at the end... typical!

So we were very lucky with the first game. We got two T-Junctions right out the gate, and miraculously chose the correct path at the first time of asking, making the route very short. Then, when we rolled to see what monsters were present, we rolled a 6 and just got a load of gobbos and Snotlings  lol

Despite labouring over that Elf Ranger, we decided not to take him, naturally! So the party composition ended up being a very weird Imperial Noble/ Trollslayer/ Wizard/ Ogre combo. And a good job we didn't get anything tougher in the Objective Room, because we failed to draw a single magic weapon or armour card during the game, meaning we were very basic level 1 warriors right to the end. A Minotaur would have absolutely crushed us  lol

What I will note is, although this project has been years in the making, the few times we do get to play make it all worthwhile. There's nothing like playing a game with a fully painted set (this applies to every type of game in this mad hobby of ours, from Napoleonics to skirmish and everything in-between). As one of our players said last night, "the best part of the hobby is that bit at the start when you line up your painted army, ready to start the game." And I think I agree!
