The Spiderbots game was played at Maidstone Wargames Society Open Day 27th June 2015

One side consisted of a squad of 14 troopers with 3 support robots

Their opponents the now infamous Spiderbots numbering 113 in total

The layout of the game saw the trropers arrive at an abandoned settlement before the Spiderbot trap is sprung!

The game objective for the robots was very simple, they needed to capture the shuttle in the middile of the settlement.
For the troopers they could either try and hold out against the robot horde or try and escape in the shuttle. Unfortunately the
shuttle would need power cells to get it started. The cells were scattered throughout the settlement. As an extra problem the shuttle only carries 6.
So more than one trip will be needed!

The troopers decided to use some of their squads to form a defensive perimeter and for others to go after the power cells.

The Spiderbots begin their advance!

The defenders start taking fire, but most of the robot heavy ordnance misses the target.

More robots move forward and the trooper players start to make their shots count.

All sides of the settlement start to feel the robot advance.

The leading Beetlebots start to take damage from the defending troopers, one of the trooper support bots makes a bold move to halt the advance.

More troopers rush to take up defensive positions, while another stray rocket from the Spiderbots nearly hits the shuttle.

With the battle joined on all sides the troopers make good progress collecting power celss for the shuttle.

The volume of incoming fire starts to find targets with trooper Gibbs wounded.

The Spiderbots reach some of the barricades only to have their way blocked by another of the troopers support bots.

The battle intesifies with the Spiderbots advancing from all directions, but the spiderbots are starting to suffer large casualties and the troopers have
managed to get a number of power cells back to the shuttle.

The troopers situation starts to deteriorate but their commander decides to try and hold for the moment rather than use the shuttle to evacuate some of his troopers.

The Spiderbots breakthrough into the settlement.

The situation becomes tense and the trooper commander finally decides to evacuate some of the wounded troopers in the shuttle.

Despite a last few rounds of intense fire from the surviving troopers reducing the robot ranks they are not enough to stop the settlement being overrun.
A flamer Spiderbot takes out one of the trooper support bots as the troopers try and reposition.

Making a fighting retreat the trooper commander makes the decision that returning with the shuttle will just result in the robots taking posession.

The biggest of the Spiderbots trys to take out the last of the trooper support bots.

With the support bot finally falling to intense fire the remaining troopers escape into the wilderness to carry on the fight another day.
The battle ended there with a partial victory awarded to the Troopers.
And that was the Spiderbot game, thanks to club members and 6milPhil for some of the photos, I only had my camera with me so could take fairly limited shots.
I think everyone enjoyed the game, took longer than I wanted to move all the robot units but then that was down to how many I made

The idea of having to collect the power cells worked well and I got the balance right between the troopers and the robots. It was interesting that after the shuttle
had left the game the players had a really good shooting round and took out a significant number of Spiderbots leading them to question whether they could indeed hold
out and destroy the remaining bots.
The troopers will be back to finish the job but I'm sure the spiderbots will be waiting.
Cheers!
