Teeny Tiny Fury Road
« on: August 02, 2015, 10:35:04 PM »
Quite like everyone else, Fury Road was the source of some major modelling erections, but I couldn't devote the cost or space to the usual 28mm versions (and my brother ended up with Dark Future in the growing up custody battle). So dovetailling into my boardgame collection we have Thunder Road from the mid 80's.

The base game is fine and the copy I picked up is only lacking one gyrocopter, but of course although the obvious inspirations with the not-Interceptor and the not-Humungous Wagon, it wasn't Max enough for me. After looking around I plumped for some lovely US N scale (1/160) railway stuff which had the kind of cars that would fit the look of the film. These are much smaller than the game cars which is fine by me as I have some thoughts about tweaking the rules for boarding actions, and you can get two of these cars side by side in the same space which works for me - there are also some lovely rigs and even a bigfoot in this scale so planning ahead I'm set.

There is actually a 1/160 V8 Interceptor on Shapeways, but that is not as detailed and around £8 so sod that for a whim, Unfortunately, there is a lack of Ford Falcons at this scale, so I picked up a reasonably close match (an '82 Chevy Camaro) and g/s'd the crap out of it. I bought some extra tires as well (4x4 off road and larger lorry tires) to replace the more flimsy looking in scale street tires they all come with. The gunner is a British Falklands War MG from Pendraken in 10mm, heavily cut down and needing a bit more work at the moment.

small ain't they? words on my thinking behind it all on the blog.

It is so much easier (cheaper) to be creative in the small scales. Loving it :)

That's a great project. I love 10mm/12mm/N-scale, it's perfect if one has to field lots of vehicles but still see lots of detail, and also the little figures still have character to them compared to the tiny 6mm blobs :)

Check Pendraken and Minifigs for WW2 and Modern era vehicles, weapons, figures, and other stuff in this scale.

That's excellent. I thought I knew my games, but only discovered Thunder Road a couple of months ago. It completely passed me by at the time.

That looks really good. I imagine that's quite close to the original scale of "Car Wars" & "Battlecars", are they about an inch long?

Very cool indeed.

Have you considered the Resistance faction from Dropzone Commander? They could fit right in, and are in 10mm scale to boot. Especially those Battle Busses!

It's the one faction I have been eyeballing ever since it came out, even though I only have a playable Scourge army right now.

But I'm sure those resistance minis could pull double duty as both rebels and warboys...

These resistance vehicles are awesome, I have never seen them before. Looks like all the civilian vehicles, sans heavy weapons, would fit right in!
