Frostgrave Soldier Cost Spreadsheet
« on: 06 August 2015, 09:29:41 AM »
After a discussion on Facebook, I decided to try and work these out:

Google Docs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Yo0iAc0coQVD1KmwufJXijZVaXXKlaoCWJBfiom5jKw/
Excel: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ytcgsfoorvve4p/Frostgrave_Costs.xlsx?dl=0

The costs work out for all troops up to 50gc. At 80gc they get a bit weird, but then I think (if you've read my soldier review) that the Man-At-Arms is underpowered (65gc worth) and Treasure Hunter is possibly overpowered (85gc worth) anyway. The fact that every 100gc guy comes out to 85gc makes me feel like my numbers are right too; there is probably an extra "tax" on these models as they're the top end (approx 17.5%; maybe Joe is adding VAT to them?)

Reasonable start to statting your own models, anyway.

Fascinating.

One minor thing:  in the Comparisons section, shouldn't the "Base" entry have Fight 0 and cost 0 (rather than 2/20)?

That would probably be more technically correct, yeah. The base was actually a backwards extrapolation of a Thug and Thief rather than a true base which is why I wrote it like that.

So, an Apprentice would be:

Move 6 (0 points) / Fight 0 (0 points) / Shoot -2 (-10 points) / Armor 10 (0 points) / Will +2 (+10 points) / Health 10 (0 points) / Hand Weapon or Staff (+5 points) = 5 points

Therefore, eight spells (3 from Wizard's school, 3 from aligned school, and 2 from neutral school) at a -2 base casting value is set at 195 points.

The Wizard would be:

Move 6 (0 points) / Fight +2 (+20 points) / Shoot 0 (0 points) / Armor 10 (0 points) / Will +4 (+20 points) / Health 14 (+20 points) / Hand Weapon or Staff (+5 points) = 65 points

Wizard's value = 65 + 195 + X (X = value of +2 casting modifier as compared to Apprentice)
= 260 + X

Given that most attribute increases are worth 5 points, each casting modifier bonus would probably be worth 5-10 points.  New spells are more difficult, since a character must level up and find/pay for a grimoire.  Going with just 5 points in order to be conservative, X would equal 16 (8 spells each with a +2 casting bonus as compared to the Apprentice) x 5 = 30.

Wizard's total starting value = 290 (at least, and probably more!)
