German East Africa Artillery 1890-1900

I'm reaching out to the throbbing brain on the forum for some help please.

My search-fu has failed me for the last two nights. I know I had this info bookmarked somewhere but I can't find it again. I'm looking for something in 25/28mm to use for a few guns.

First is the 60mm mountain guns. The gun from Tiger Miniatures look like it is too big and muzzle loading compared to the pictures I have seen which are breech loading and a very small gun.

I have found multiple sources for the 37mm revolving cannon. If I recall, they mounted these on carriages for ease of moving them about in the field. I'll probably use the TVAG one.

Finally, I recall the Germans also had a slightly larger gun that I believe was originally a naval mount that they also put on a carriage. The piece had a gun shield and I believe was a larger caliber than the 37mm. I seem to recall there was a German language site that had lots of info on these obscure artillery pieces but again, can't find it.

I think you will find that the naval gun came from the Konigsberg after it was run aground and abandoned. I recall the thread but I will leave that for you to hunt.

Wow, I didn't know about the sister ship!  So, there were two lost ships in the Rufiji Delta?  Not just the Konigsberg?

..... ... just kidding, of course, only a typo, certainly.

But imagine if there had been two and the possible changes to the theater?

More fun to speculate if the zeppelin had made it all the way with its full cargo in tact.  Then what?

sorry, amended now. yes, a theatre of amazing possibilities. Von Lettow-Vorbeck's story in itself is incredible and actually told with great respect by his opponents. the tragedy was the Africans who died as a result of their treeatment from both sides.

It is not a gun from the Konigsberg.

That ship wasn't built until 1905, which is past the time frame I am looking for.

I just watched a brief Beyond the Trenches programme on Tonga (available on iPlayer) and like most Colonial Powers in African, the Germans really weren't very nice to the inhabitants.

It's brief but worth a watch if you don't know much about the war fought there during WWI- there's a good scenario idea.

By the way, Tonga is a small island nation in the Pacific. It isn't in Africa, and was never really colonised by Europeans. Did you mean Togoland, or Togo as it is called today?

Well, Colonialism in all its variety was never nice to the natives so yeah, i wholeheartedly agree!

Askari Miniatures has beautiful Krupp Mountain Gun - not sure if it is period

The 75mm Krupp mountain gun mentioned was not originally used by the Germans until the Boxer rebellion.

37mm revolving cannons and later on old Krupp guns 1871 models..but those were mostly on the coast.
