Plastic swashbuckling has arrived...
« on: November 14, 2008, 06:43:41 PM »
Oh. My. God.

Well, it was bound to happen... Plastic swashbuckling has arrived...

http://www.warlordgames.co.uk/?p=844

Shame I'm most of the way through painting my new forces of 200+ Bicorne and Renegade ECW figures...

Still, at least one of the plastics manufacturers has broken out from the Roman/Napoleonic straitjacket... That bodes well.

I daresay I shall try a box  ;)

Oh, for goodness' sake!

I haven't even got around to buying hundreds of ACW figures yet, let alone Zulus, Romans and Napoleonics  >:(

How can I possibly be expected to buy all this stuff and get it painted without 10 Doctor Who style regenerations?

They do look very nice, though. Better than the Romans, in fact. I hope they are compatible with Perry/Foundry ECW  ;D

I am pretty sure we are seeing the "3-ups", so the actual production figures might not be quite as cracking. Still, it looks very promising. As someone who has been thinking about rebuilding his ECW army this is good news indeed!  :D

Saw this earlier on frothers. At the very least I'm looking at getting a box to play around with to convert for my Musketeers setting. Some civilians and possibly some undead if I ever feel that way.

- zombie cardinal's guard: "Brains"
- d'Artagnan: "You insult me, sir, stop it at once".
- Aramis whips out perfumed hanky to cover nose: "And the smell, don't these men ever take a bath"
- more zombie cardinal's guards: "Brains"
- Athos: "That's it, I demand satisfaction. Meet us behind the Carmes-des-chauds at noon tomorrow"
- Porthos: "I don't know about you, but this thing has made me hungry.  I could really go for a plate of brains right now, let's go to the tavern."

and soforth...

I used to do large-scale ECW battles in 1/300, but with 28mm skirmishing is the only feasible way at present.

These might actually get me playing Warhammer Historical ECW, all these years after buying it when it was first released. I hope there are going to be plastic troopers in lobster-pots.

Possibly my favourite ever military uniform  :)

They're nice.

Need more rapiers, floppy hats with feathers, and moustachios, but they'll do.

Lovely, I can see the influence of John Stallard behind this range :D which is a good thing. Luckily I have ECW out of my system so it wont attract

Sounds quiet interesting  ;), especially the part about the Thirty years war. I hope they will produce some miniature-musketeers with a musket-rest. This part is missing in most ECW-ranges. I'm really looking forward to see more pictures of the minis.

From the linked news page:

The pics here are of the prototype masters so are missing things like sword hangers, musket rests, etc - the finished plastics will look even better!

Looks like you'll get your wish.

My only concern is on size. I think they'll be too small for me to use. The Romans I picked up scale perfectly with the old Foundry ranges but are much smaller than the newer ones. So don't match up with any of the more recent manufacturers ranges either. Could be a good source of weapons etc though.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Hopefully these will fit in nicely with the Foundry and Perry ECW. I'm wondering if they have been scaled to do this, as looking at the pics of the sculpts, they do initially appear compatible in style.

Ho hum - unless they're Renegade / Bicorne sized, they'll be no use to me.
Perry / Foundry are far too squat and diddly to mix in.  :(

Mind you, having just had a recount of the total lead in my burgeoning ECW collection (painted, in progress, and waiting in the mountain) I have approximately 300 foot, horse and artillerists... So I don't actually need any more...  ::)

Then again, when has that ever stopped any of us...  ;)
