Cracking work mate and you are certainly convincing me of the advantages of 300mm squares  ;)

Thanks all, much appreciated ...

Slapped a quick coat of brown on:

I sort of blame you as when I first saw your buildings I loved that each one was a mini diorama. To some extent, each tile is set up as a mini diorama, which makes for (to me anyway) a much more rewarding building and gaming experience.  ;) :D
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

We have standardised on them here using Back2Bas-ix laser cut 'Battleframe' squares (http://www.back2base-ix.com/5300-series-and-accessories.html). While more expensive than cutting your own, these are precision laser cut and have rare earth magnets along the sides which hold them together. The magnets really do work to prevent shifting of tiles during play.

While not quite up to the standard of Mr Invader's boards, here are a couple of pics of them in use:
(For those interested, the game was a scenario featuring Moorcock's Corum and the 'People from the Pines' from Little Wars 2015)

Wowzers Steve  o_o  o_o stunning work. Each tile has such character and has plenty of space for gaming, I'm rather impressed.

:-* :-*

Thanks Joe and Matt  :)

For my base tiles, I have my local DIY Shed (B&Q) cut up a 6mm sheet for free. I have contemplated magnets to connect but haven't needed to as unless they overhang the table and are knocked they stay put (though an IKEA non-slip table mat is another solution).

Regarding the decorative content of the tiles, how busy it is will affect usage. These will get WotR and probably 18thC Highwaymen as well as for their primary role as part of The North of Westeros - they certainly wouldn't work for closed ranked forces such as for Napoleonics.  :)

Goddamit!
You mean we won't be refighting Austerlitz again this year? :'(

;)

(Tell you what though, that layout would probably do very nicely for a Peninsular War skirmish, a la 'Sharpe').

Looking wondrous. Can't wait to see it finished.

Hmm, didn't think of Sharpe but yeah that too (and I have some plastic Nappy sprues somewhere).

I'm looking forward to finishing this stage of the project as I have a stash of minis ready to become Cleganes and Watch plus there's the part-done Walkers. I also have some hidden markets to make (rabbits, is what I'd decided on).  :D

Yes, that's why ours are flat as our main focus is large scale battles with 120mm wide movement stands.

Looks really good! How do the magnets work? can you flip them in their slots so that any configuration is possible or are there limitations due to the polarity of the fixed (?) magnets? I am thinking of doing something very similar using HIPS, but so far have not considered magnets due to the polarity issue, but it seems to work here.

Thanks Colin  :D

@p: I don't use magnets to join my boards but I did once try to do something similar with formed HIPs tiles and there's a thread on LAF somewhere about it. Basically, for me HIPS was too light, too expensive and too prone to warping.  :)

Thanks guy!  :D

A question on the ASOIAF / GOT landscape and weather.

My part of the North is below The Wall in a presently snow-free (though very wet) location. In the TV series (3 I think) Wildlings raid a village (thus the village that will join my board idc) which is snow-free, letting one boy live to pass on the news of what has happened. A short while later that boy appears at The Wall, which is as frozen and snowbound as ever. It has always irritated me a tad (yes, I should get out more!) that there seemed to be a sudden switch in the weather. Maybe the village had had a pleasant bout of weather? Anyways, in the books is there a general sense of where the snow starts (altitude, longitude, etc) or does the TV series just gloss over a sudden overall worsening in the weather moving south? Or did I miss something? Probably the latter!
