New colonial game report (pic heavy) - Updated with the final part

I have to say that TSATF are probably one of my all favorite set of rules. Easy to pick up and ideal for recreating that colonial movie flavor. More please!!

Hi all

Here's the final of the game report. Sorry for the long delay its a busy time of year here, and the summer has been great!

The middle stages of the game. The Marines and Askaris are getting bolder and advancing up the middle of the table. Time for another surprise....
 



Another unit of natives appear from the jungle and charge the Marines. They were hoping the catch the marines on open order so the combat would favour them more.




Unfortunately for the Natives, the Marines managed to form a square in time. But this reduced their firepower quite a lot, meaning they didn't inflict many casualties on the charging natives.




Meanwhile on the other side of the table another spear unit charged the Askaris who had regrouped themselves. This time the commander had learned his lesson and wisely formed the unit into square as it advanced. However the charge finished off the poor askaris, who where left unsupported by the marines.




The aftermath of the combat. The Marines won the combat but as you can see there was a lot of carnage with only 2 left standing (the rest were killed or ran away). The Marines still in formation were the second unit which were behind the first during the combat.




The remains of the spear unit retreating into the village. They had gone below half strength and failed their morale test, forcing them to run away back into the safety of the village.




The table at end of the game with a understrength marine unit advancing towards the village. At this point we finished the game as we ran out of time and both sides were pretty depleted. The Native/Arab forces still had a couple of untouched units whilst the German forces were getting low on ammo.

Nice figs, cool terrain pieces, inspirational! 

Not sure I like the carpet you use as surface (I think it would work better as an ocean  ), but it does the work OK.

As said, the terrain pieces are good, and IMHO they deserve a surface made for them. And I also often compromise - you cannot manage to do everything perfect everytime; you wouldn't have time for any actual gaming, then

Yes, the cloth is wrong, but IIRC Kieran left the correct one at home for the game 

It would look even better with the right coloured terrain. Hopefully for the next battle report [hint, hint] this will be sorted and we'll get our full quota of eye-candy

The table setup. In bottom of the table is the german camp and the top is the Native village. Unfortunately I left my cloth at home so I had to use one from the club and its a bit too dark.

Don't worry, take it from someone who has the memory of a goldfish, it's easily done with the amount of stuff posted here

Yeah I agree about the cloth - it does spoil the look of the game. I'm making a new one at the moment, as its not practical for me to have boards.

I'll be playing another game in a month or so. I want to make some new terrain first (a river, and some large rocky areas) and get some acacia trees from here

JTT's trees are really nice (they also have date palms), and I actually posted a link to them somewhere her a long, long tome ago, because of the akacias and the date palms.

They are a bit expensive, but one really does not need a whole lot of akacias for a savanna-setup. Long grass and shrubbery will fill most of the table
