Learning to play the game first you should. Having a couple of dogfights you may. "Prepainted" miniatures shall allow you to do so without scratchbuilding spoil heaps...

To be honest I just fancied building something.

Follow this I must, several 1970s SW kit bits collected I have, for something similar in mind I had, with turbo laser turrets :)

That way distraction lies.....

Concentrate you must!

I don't know if this has already been posted but I always find this relevant in all things X-wing.

Keep it coming. I have a similar idea for the x-wing game.
I even started to look for suitable figures and buildings. o_o

I've almost finished assembling the random bits of junk on this. I'm just working on the asteroid bit itself, which is quite awkward as it's always going to be contrived and abstract. Various bits of blue foam have been glued together and have been drying overnight prior to being filled to create the edges of the partial crater.  The look is inspired by the Star Wars Rebels episodes on the abandoned clone asteroid base (just getting in to this with my 3 year old!).

No photos yet as i) bad light and ii) it still looks kind of infant school project  lol I'm hoping this will improve with paint!

Thanks Steve.  At least the foam seems to have stuck. I was using watered-down pva last night and I ended up pinning every single tiny piece with cut down cocktail sticks to stop them sliding around.

Looks like a great project Steve...will you be adding filler on top of the foam to strengthen it?

Yes, that's the plan. I need to pick some up today.

My 3 year old technical consultant has just pointed out that there are no guns!

The shuttle and fighter pad is on one side of the control tower and the larger ship pad on the other side. Not sure where to put guns or what I'm going to make them out of!

Agreed!
Great use of junk.

I bet your missus is well pleased with you, keeping all these odd bits of plastic to make 'stuff' with.

Looking really good, most excellent advice from your military and base planning advisor :)

Are you going to put this on flight stands or will it "rest" as it is on the table? I'm thinking of making a sort of underside for the asteroid and put it on the flight stands.

It's all in a 'Really Useful Box'  which apparently is OK as it's tidy and it matches the others!  lol

I'm torn between mounting it on flight stands and leaving I flat.  I may allow for both options. I don't want it to be too high so that a Raider or something could dock (if I ever got one! :D).
