Actually I could see a use for the dreadnought with some conversion work for a 40K penitent engine but the naked chick would have to go and be replaced with a dark gothic style penitent.

What an embarassing set of figures. For every effort like Bad Squiddo games who make realistic and sensible female warrior figures, you get ten companies cranking out these pieces of shit. Like I said, I find their existence in the hobby an embarassment.

I would hazard a guess that even 10 companies are banging out "naked warrior chick" miniatures it's because there is a market for it maybe not from me and you but someone must buy them or no one would bother selling them.

I'd remove the woman completely and put a robot head and belly in there... that dread actually looks quite 'Space Crusade' (apart from the woman).

I don't particularly like the concept myself, but I disagree that they are bad sculpts - some of the details are actually pretty nice.

I find it quite amusing the uproar this has caused. Yes, it's cheesy and sexist and obviously aimed at the teen wank market, but these are fantasy toys in a fantasy universe. We never see this kind of outcry if a historical figure is released holding a decapitated head. For that matter, any historical figure has implications of death, murder, rape - war is a human tragedy that gamers are happy to make into an entertainment, but some fantasy figures showing a bit of flesh - NOOOOOOOOOOOO, the disgrace. Next time you push your Tiger tank around on the battlefield, remember it represents real events that included not just warfare, but mass civilian casualties, attempted genocide, serial rape, pillage, etc. etc. - all the darkest places our history has taken us.

That's the thing I actually quite like the sculpting but  every model is let down by pointless boobs/naked flesh some of the models could work if I was prepared to do some work on them (which I probably wouldn't). I do quite like the big Demon thing though she could work as a female (again more boobs) daemon prince(ss) of Nurgle.

I'm not offended in the least by these figures. They're just embarassing. Yes, historical figures represent forces and wars that produced terrible things, I'm not ignorant of history. What's daft and embarassing about these is that, according to the design, these women put on a load of armour and such ready for battle, but make sure to leave their massive boobs and shapely arses on display. Yes, of course, you just would wouldn't you? It's very obviously aimed at "the teen wank" market, and that's embarassing to me. The sculpting itself is actually very well done.  :)

Indeed. Despressing really, but each to their own.

I'm not actually bothered by nudity or what not on my miniatures as long as there is a good reason for it but on these miniatures they've armoured everything apart from the vital areas which is just stupid.

Granted my memory on the subject is pretty dim, but doesn't GW also do a dreadnought with an unarmoured, exposed pilot right in front (minus boobs IIRC)?
Always wondered what the big idea with that was, it made the Eldar mobile toilets look good in comparison...

With the random thought of the day out of the way, I think I remember it being mentioned Prodos had some financial issues so perhaps this is their shameless attempt to bring the cash in?

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

I think a lot of the uproar is because it's becasue they are using the name Space Crusade without basing anything they have on the original game, save for the part that both are sci-fi board games, maybe.

Looking at the miniatures; all I can think is that there is a heavy(expensive) dose of irony going on,they are very, very silly.

Ok the Minis are ...... Mainly done in Fleshtones....

Thats a question of personal taste I would guess the kids will go for them... "the internet is really really great for ****" You know what I mean.

But.... hell man, if my  Miniaturespainting crew would be to stupid to assemble my own Miniaturekits for the Promotionpictures, I would ask for a carryable hole from ACME.

Look at those Shields. They have glued them with the skull to the Bottom....

Penitent engines yes, tough those are all greebly and rough looking, rather then armoured up with the pilot fully exposed (and gosh do I mean fully)

I have another funny one, the jump pack equipped troops don't have their asses covered, with just above them jet exhausts powerful enough to carry them into the air. Those are going to be some hots arses, but not in the right way.

My favourite is that one of the FB pictures is a "detailed" picture of one of the bikers, and one of the inset photos is her ass in a thong.  As if that's a special model detail.  lol "Now with more accurate buttocks!"

Something I often remember, and something i think we've all faced at some point and had to figure out how we feel about it.
However, I think that no one is truly offended by these and rather, they just feel a bit of an embarrassment.  If someone came into a gaming shop to try and start tabletop gaming, and saw twp people playing the game of ass and titty hammer shown here, it'd reaffirm all the old rumors of tabletop gamers being a bunch of sweaty mini fetishists and lonely perverts.
And i for one am almost never lonely.  lol

I'm thinking a significant part of the furore is influenced by this being a Prodos project -- in other words, no matter what they did it would be bad. Could be wrong tho, there was apparently much outrage about Kingdom Death: Monster nekkid wimmin & al. for example (underserved, according to fans) but I missed that since I don't really pay attention to fantasy miniature projects.

---

Did you notice that the logo actually reads "Space Crusaders", not "Space Crusade" in the figure pictures? I wonder what's up with that.
Prodos newsletter explains the confusing issue thusly:
Quote
Brand new product line - "Space Crusaders" - are models for upcoming board game "Space Crusade"
