UPDATED Lava board and Forest Terrain
« on: February 19, 2016, 09:23:40 PM »
I'm sure you guys have heard of RelicBlade. It is a new tabletop miniature game with RPG elements that has caught my eye. It requires few minis and a 2x2 playing surface. I backed the project and decided to build up some terrain. I've got a lava board nearly complete and once it is done I'll start on a forest board which I will also post in this thread. Here is a link to the RelicBlade site if you are curious http://relicblade.com/ , the Kickstarter if you are interested https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1000723637/relicblade-adventure-battle-game , and the Facebook group if you are so inclined https://www.facebook.com/groups/182254545474657/ , and I'll sneak in my blog link here  ;) http://danceswithhipposterrain.blogspot.com/

On to the step by step (more or less).
I started with a sketch based off Sean's excellent lava terrain (He is the Author, Sculptor, and Artist behind the game)

But sketches are boring, so i quickly started tearing into foam.

Next I put down the lava using about 30 oz of acrylic caulk and shaped with a cheap brush.

The always exciting gluing of sand stage.

Primed with cheap black acrylic to protect the foam and then finished with Rust-oleum spray primer.

The rock was done with several shades of grey. Boring at the moment but the lava makes it pop.

I carved some standing stones for clutter and one as a makeshift bridge.

I also made some hazardous looking rope bridges.

I then painted up the lava. I started at a white base, worked through layers of yellow, orange, and red (mixing along the way) and finished with a black dry brush.

This is everything as it stands at the moment.

I have a Hirst Arts ruined tower( http://www.hirstarts.com/ruin/ruin.html ) arriving tomorrow (I hope!) that will serve as the center piece. I'll update with WiP pictures as I go along. Once this one is Finished I'll start on my forest board featuring the Dragons Don't Share ruins ( http://danceswithhipposterrain.blogspot.com/2015/07/dragons-dont-share-2.html ) from Reapers Bones II Kickstarter.

Awesome  :o

Very well done.

How sturdy is the ropebridge?
Have you strengthened it with glue?

It is quite sturdy. The hot glue and the paint add a lot of strength. I've filled them up with metal Redbox minis and it held very well. This is the method I based mine off of

The bridges aren't attached to the board if that is what you mean. They can be moved around to change up the scenario.

That's what I ment  :)
Looks like that method might be worth trying then, easier to make than the wire-ones, I guess  ;)

Yeah, I glued my ends to skewers and just set them on the rocks. He glues his to the terrain but like you, I prefer modular stuff.

That is bloody impressive!
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo

That is a FANTASTIC setting; BEAUTIFULLY modeled & painted. The rope bridges are OUTSTANDING. VERY WELL DONE!

I got my Hirst Arts stuff today. This is my first experience using their blocks. I think the tower is going to look great, but what a pain in the ass to assemble!
