First Space Marines in 20 years! (Big Stompy Robot!)
« on: 25 February 2016, 07:13:13 PM »
Well, I decided to break out the Betrayal at Calth sprues and start cutting them up.  Decided to fashion a MkVI beakie retro assault squad.  Since this won't be aimed at 40K I used my own bases and I didn't follow any squad organization.  Will probably paint up some more in the future.  It was easy and fun.  Always loved the Mentor Legion.

These will hopefully find service in some form of sci-fi skirmish game in the future.  My dip has started to thicken by the times these guys went in so unfortunately it became a bit of a mess, but I'll cope.

More pics on my blog.

And yes, for the purists...these don't match any actual Mark pattern suits...just a kit-bash.

Painting Space Marines is fun.
I don't play 40K, but I did buy a box of Assault Marines or was it Tactical Marines... anyways, a box of 10 dudes and I kitbashed them into two small teams and it was fun.

Yeah I enjoyed it and it was pretty easy...it's very fun when you don't have to worry about any rules to who you build and how.  I'll probably end up kit-bashing another 20-30 figures and be done with it.

Also, if I get tired of them, I know they're an easy sell on ebay.  lol

When I got into 40K it was still early 2nd edition so I fell in love with all of the MkVI guys and the old silly jump packs.  This let me relive that stuff for cheap and easy.

LOVELY paint job!  :o

So clean, and yet weathered at the same time. Mentor Legion, that brings back some good memories of White Dwarf back in the day :).

Inspirational - almost tempted to dabble in Calth. Almost. ;)

They look nice. What shade of dip did you use? I like the effect you got.

Also, when my dip get's thick I just mix in a bit of mineral spirits and usually it's good to go.

It's the middle shade...so...Strong?  I also mix in mineral spirits, this stuff just went thick between my last dip and this one, so once I dipped...oh well.  lol  With runnier dip I think the effect would have been better.  Either way I'm fine with it.  They're in combat anyway, so a little dust/dirt doesn't hurt.

Spellcrow (a resin company in Poland) sells them on eBay for very reasonable prices.  Oddly they came with a bunch of "freebies" from the rest of their resin range - almost more freebies than jump packs.  I have 10 more on the way.
