I got the first batch of bugs finished last night; the rest just need a spot of blacklining and their base edges done.

Nice.

They are something that needs a quick and simple paint job, and that meets the two criteria and adds that they look good.

Thanks! I'm essentially letting the designer do the painting; the drybrushing just picks up the details.

Here are two Kryomek hellions to go with them:

Thanks!

Here are some more bugs, plus a shot or two from their debut game (we played a five-player MDRG game with the bugs randomly spawned from the three somewhat Freudian 'hive mouths' that I made last night and painted up this morning.

Just for the sake of completeness, here are these fellows from my fantasy thread:

I'm going to be using them in both fantasy and sf games, so they kind of belong in both threads. They'll be both dungeon villains and the start of some Xenos Rampant/Fubar units.

Here's the first of a little group for various sci-fi skirmish games: flathead pirates.

His cute.

Always interesting miniatures and or colours on show here. Love the way fantasy miniatures get a gun and are suddenly transformed into Sci-Fi minis. lol

Keep 'em coming...

Thanks, chaps!

I've been playing around with some greyscale/contrast-paint experiments on the fantasy thread and decided to have a go at some Stargrave mercenaries that have been lying around assembled for a while.

For these, I just brushed on a lot of mid-grey paint, leaving a little bit of black in the recesses, and then highlighted generously in white mixed with matt medium. The next step was to slosh on some heavily thinned contrast paints. I added a few details and then gave them a very light drybrush in ivory to make them look a bit dustier. The reptilian chaps need a bit more work (eyes, teeth, tongues), but should be done soon.

They're nothing special, but this was a very quick and fun way to get them tabletop-viable.

Those came out well! Nice choice of colours, too. I like that they’re subdued, my main complaint about contrast paints is that they can make everything look too saturated.

Looking good mate! Lots to love in this thread. Your Tyranids look how I tend to picture them and you make me regret selling the Mantic Salamanders I used to have. I was not a huge fan of the Stargrave plastics at first but I have really come around to loving them.

These look great! Even the white mid-stage coat looks like something I'd be happy with on some nameless trooper minions.
