Pig-Faced Orcs
« on: March 28, 2016, 05:30:08 PM »
Welcome to my thread about my interpretation of these marvelous miniatures from Otherworld. I lost my heart when I saw them about a year ago, but I was not able to start painting them im earnest. In my last vacation I took the opportunity and painted some of these snouty scoundrels.

I hope you like these miniatures, as I am currently experimenting a lot with different techniques and tools. These figures were mostly painted by washes/inks/glazes, with additional edge highlights applied afterwards. I always prime my miniatures with my Airbrush in two layers: first black, and then grey sprayed from a 45° angle. I use mainly Vallejo paints form the Model Air, Game Air, Model Color and Game Color ranges (so practically all Vallejo ranges). The washes are Army Paint Warpaint Shades.

I currently plan to build a small Frostgrave band from these lovelies.

The Piggy Orcs are OUTSTANDING characters. Your WONDERFUL work with brush & palette brought out all their personality & the BEAUTIFUL bases provided a SPLENDID setting. VERY WELL DONE!

I've been so tempted on numerous occasions to replace my orcs with these...your pictures aren't helping!  Perhaps that'll be a 2016 goal.  I love...LOVE...Otherworld Miniatures.  Just beautiful miniatures and a joy to paint (though smaller of scale and quite detailed!).

Nice work.

Nice work, and great sculpts.  They've been nearly duplicated in 15mm as well:

Yours are a lot bigger than mine, but the family resemblance is undeniable.  Same inspiration after all.

I really like the edging on the studded-leather jacks. It sets the minis off really well.

Yup lovely figures, beautifully painted; I agree with you about Otherworld miniatures - purveyors of happiness-inducing figures

Casting my mind back I think Miniature Figurines of Southampton produced some pig-faced orcs too probably back in the 1970s - does anyone else remember them or am I hallucinating?

Thanks for all the kind replies! I got around finishing two more of the piggies. This time a ranger and a thief/thug.

I was again able to sneak in some hobby time the last two days and finished my Warlord. Currently only two figures remain (Wizard and Standard-Bearer), before i might be able to test them on the battlefield (my much-loved "Dunkelstadt"-Dungeon).

What can I say. I think the blendings are getting smoother (at least in the miniature), but the photographies are still my main enemy. Sometimes I have too much light, or too few, sometimes it is too yellow. I probably have to investigate the possibility to build a lightbox/diffusor light-setup one day...

These are looking great! I think pig-faced orcs are way overdue in my collection. But I have soo much stuff to paint, right now, it's insane.

I have found the time to buy a tripod for my camera, and I think it really improved the picture quality. Maybe the daylight also helped... But anyways, here is the last piece of the first batch: The Witch-Doctor.
