New Resin Pulp Project
« on: January 23, 2007, 09:28:50 AM »
Hey guys.
At the beginning of February I am going to Holland to visit my good friend and gifted hobbyist GeBoom (check out http://www.shiftinglands.com for the things he has done so far). I will be staying over at his place for 3 days and we would like to start a new project, best for the Pulp era, since this is very popular at the moment.
What I want from you guys are some suggestions what this project should be all about. There are so many different .45 adventures going on and maybe some of them could use some kind of specific scenery we would be designing during these 3 days. It shouldn't be too big of a project, so we have the chance to work on it from start to finish.
Our first idea are some kind of Zeppelin, or submarine.

If it is desired, I would be willing to post a regular progress report during my visit.

What do you think is desperately needed in the world of Pulp? :)

There was some desire for a small plane:

A small resin pulp between-the-wars fighter would be pretty fun. It'd be a biplane with an enclosed cockpit, and not much bigger than a GW Rhino, ideally. Then depending on the paint job, you could have an fighter from an Air Pirate band, a Zeppelin Jagdgeschwader Staffel, or a US Navy squadron!

Thanks for posting this Zoogla.

I must say that the pulp area is getting more and more interesting so I will indeed try and do some modelling together with Z within the pulp area.
Although I prefer to do an actual resin zep (not too big) I am open/we are open for any suggestions whatsoever.
I am not too good at going realistic all the way. I like some twists so if we come up with something then beware that it might look somewhat out of the ordinary.

Some kind of transport for the Artizan Air Pirates and the Pulp Figures Zeppelin Troopen would be good.

How about a Pulp spacecraft like Flash Gordon's?

out of the ordinary is what Pulp is all about, isn't it? :-)
Like the idea of a plane. Hmm, need more time, damnit!

As much as IŽd love the idea of a 28mm Zep, I must strongly advise against using Resin for the Floating Body - even if hollow cast, this will be heavy as well and fall apart faster than a Ming vase taking a dive off a table.

Now, if you could do the Floating Body as vacu parts, and the engine and crew gondolas from resin, that would be cool.

Otherwise, IŽd strongly support the "Pulpenplane". Maybe do a two-seater, since it could be used as a fighter-bomber, recon plane, air mail plane, and with a cunningly-wrought cockpit cover as a one-seat fighter.

yes, zep and plane would be cool. Also some mad scientist stuff, crazy devices, a sort of wall plates to build a labaratory, a "retro" rocket, rocket launching pad.

Yah!  Maybe a full mad-scientist lab with test bed, tables full of test tubes, flasks and beakers, and a giant ray-gun type thing pointing at the test bed!

That would be great, too.

Hey hey!
Great ideas here, I guess Zoogla and I will need much more time then the 3 days we have planned for now. (No worries there will be more sessions this year)
The zep could well be a hollow cast and not that heavy. I do agree on the playability. You must be able to actually do something with the device rather then some object that is floating around in watter or in the air.

I like the mad scientist lab idea. Any pictures/drawings/scetches of some sort might help a lot!
I also keep on looking at the possible sub/Zeb issue.

That might indeed work! Split it halfways bottom-top, so that you get a lower half, on (or rather, within) which you could place gas bags, a gantry, and a bomb-dropping hell device like in "Murder, Inc."

I've got to second the zeppelin, mad scientist's lab and plane suggestions.

However rather than a 1 or 2 seater plane, I'd prefer to see something slightly bigger - with three engines! - perhaps an amalgam of a Ford Trimotor, Fokker F.VII and a Junkers Ju52 but sized smaller than a 1/48 model would be (to fit better on the gaming tables). You can more in and out with a transport plane after all...

A Flash Gordon-style rocket ship would also be very nice. Like this but *way* less expensive

And a wild crazy Last Crusade-style tank would nice. Yes, I can get them on eBay but not without paying a small fortune.
Why not start here: Vickers A1E1 Independent or Mark VIII Liberty

And finally, I'd love to see the Venture (the ship from Jackson's King Kong) in a waterline format.

I'm sure whatever you make (pulp plane) will be excellent (pulp plane) and I look forward to seeing (pulp plane) what you've done (pulp plane).

Heck yeah! I was looking for something like that!

Maybe a stubbier version with a shorter hull, but a similar cabin/bridge structure.
