I stuck the sticks together
« on: April 24, 2016, 09:27:08 PM »
Done rocks thought I'd do sticks next. Turned out much better than I expected. Here are some nice large pictures  8)
Same as the Rockman I just stuck it together with the hot glue gun. Resisted adding foliage, might re-visit that if I feel so inclined.

Very nice. I think getting the 'head' right helps tie it all together.

At first I tried some bark with eye slits a bit like a mask, but ditch that in favour of a helmet style.

Nice.

I think I prefer it to the rock monster.

I agree, whether it was because the wood was harder to craft and so required more thought on the style, pose etc. I don't know.
Definitely want to make more miniatures out of the sticks  8)

Great work.
It looks much better and more realistic than Treemans/Ents made of metal/resin.

Interesting, although a bit harder to collect up the raw materials. I could use tin cans .... hmmm  ;)

Well to be fair you can't get much more realistic than making a treeman out of actual wood. But I take your point  8)

Great!

Have you sealed the wood in any way? Or are you content to let time take its toll on the sticks?

Haven't sealed it, not sure what to do about it. I used dried dead bits of wood rather than fresh bits and was just going to see how long it lasted.
It's as robust as a resin kit would be and I'm sure will suffer wear and tear as if I game with it, the same as most models do.

I'm making some smaller versions and I will try the sealing them to see what happens.

Any suggestions on wood sealants?

No not really. I am just here to steal ideas :D

Well perhaps giving it a coat of watered down pva. That might seal it enough to stop the woods decomposition. But then again if it deteriorates to much you can always just build another one.

Well you did get me thinking and i might try a wood preserver or hardener.
