Clear Bases
« on: 17 June 2016, 01:36:36 AM »
I thought that I would try out some clear bases. I ordered some 1.5mm thick bases from Litko to give them a try. I have 25 and 40mm that came in today. I am very disappointed with them, as they are very rough on the edges and not polished or smooth. Is this normal for clear base? None of the photos that I have seen with clear bases looked rough like these. I really do not want to spend my time sanding and polishing all these bases up. Thinking of sending them back.

What type of clear bases is everyone else using?

There are usually fine striations around the edge of a laser cut base due to the frequency pulse and settings of the cutter in question. It depends on what machines they have as to how bad this can be.

Can you post a photo of the bases you received?

The ones I produce have this striation but it's quite subtle and the edges do have a polished finish to them (I'm on holiday at the moment and can't get any pictures of them).

cheers

I did not take them out of the package yet, but this photo shows what I am talking about. These are the 25mm ones.

That, unfortunately for yourself is generally the finish you can expect from lasered acrylic.

They are not the best but they are certainly not the worst.

Thanks for the info, I guess I will get the sandpaper and polisher out. I guess I could try to flame polish a few of them and see how that works also.
