Thanks to my obsession and the lovely figures from Galloping Major (and Dixon, Redoubt and others) I am near to having a sufficiently large host to run nearly a 1 to 1 scale battle.  What fun!

A little update. Following the success of our Kickstarter, I'm very busy preparing for the release of our Redcoats - for anyone who doesn't know yet, the first release will comprise 10 packs of SYW/FIW hatmen including 2 command packs plus 4 packs of FIW 60th Foot.   :)
Here are a couple of pics of work in progress:

3 Figures from Redcoats pack SYW/FIW B10 British Line Infantry Hat Company Skirmishing.

3 characters for packs FIW BRT3 & 4 (60th Foot).

Cheers,
Lance

Looking great Lance!

I'll show my ignorance here, but why were they referred to as hat men?

No problem Andy, it's nothing so smart as you might think; they're hat men, as most companies in a battalion were, to differentiate them from the grenadier companies - in mires - and (starting from the SYW/FIW) the light companies - in caps. They became referred to later as "centre companies" as the grenadier and light companies traditionally formed up at either end of a battalion.

Cheers,
Lance

Thanks for the information.

By this point grenadiers are elites? Hat men are regulars and light companies are skirmishing troops?

It still happens today in the British Army, elite soldiers rather disparagingly refer to other squaddies as 'hats'!

Sure, Lance? Regulars were light troops? I remember the hessian regulars are the linetroops, the jaegers are the light and skirmish troops and the grenadiers were the Heavy infantry or special troops.

He didn't agree that regulars were light, he agreed that hat men were regulars, and light troops were skirmishers. I think!😉

Thank you, I misunderstood it. Are the 60th foot light troops?
