Just thinking.... 15mm modes for 28mm games- ogres

So far I am looking at possibly Viking Forge (Asgard) or Mirliton (Grenadier) orcs and goblins.  I am wanting figures suitable for Middle Earth as Tolkien wrote, not as Peter Jackson filmed it.
I then wondered whether Splintered Light ogres (http://ep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-133546587642587/armored-ogres-3.gif) or Khurasan trolls (http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/trolls.jpg) might fit.  It depends on just how big these figures are.  The trolls are a bit chunky, but look damn good.

Does anyone know how tall these stand?

The bases are some sort of coin, I'm guessing. Probably an American two cent which is around 23mm. They're small-ish for 28mm but would probably look good as goblins.

They do very much remind me of the art on the OOOOOLD LotR card game.

The Khurasan trolls are the perfect size for uruks in 28mm. Blackstone (who I think may have designed them) posted a picture of them here with some 28mm Vikings, and they're exactly right. The only changes I'd make would be to the weapons - scimitars or spears would look more orcish. But that's a minor matter. They'd be better for Mordor uruks than Isengarders, as the latter had round shields (and short broad-bladed swords - straight ones, we can infer).

If you scroll down here, there's a picture of the Splintered Light ogres (in their earlier incarnation as Rebel Minis 20mm orcs). They stand about 20mm tall.

That would make them a respectable height for an orc in 28 mm.

Excellent - about the size of a largish Hobbit, I'd say - thus the size of a smallish orc.

I may have to think about getting some for Hordes of the Things - I can imagine a pack of these with the old Ral Partha orc discipline master cracking his whip at the back!

I've just gotten the Splintered Light miniatures myself and was thinking of using them for the same thing. (and they're tiny versions of the Wargames Factory orcs)

You should also consider Denizen's orc and goblin figures which are about the same size and very well done. The PG and PS codes though are more like Warhammer goblins though.

Also have the Viking Forge figures and though they vary in size the biggest aren'
t bigger than a 28mm human, and most aren't taller than 20mm.

Yes, the old Denizen orcs are nice - and, like a lot of older models, clearly done with Tolkien in mind (the Lidless Eye on helms and shields).

I'd noticed the common (Angus McBride-inspired!) heritage of the Splintered Light "ogres" and the Wargames Factory orcs. Given that orcs in Middle Earth range from "almost man-high" (for a huge uruk chieftain) to hobbit-sized, they should combine well.

The Viking Forge (formerly Asgard) orcs are terrific - the soldier orcs are clearly based on the Isengard Uruk-hai.

I've just been looking at the CPM (formerly Splintered Light) bugbears. I think they'd mix quite well with the Splintered Light "ogres"; Tolkien's orcs were hairy, after all. Obviously, the crossbows don't work in Middle Earth.
