'Sahyun' Fortress project
« on: 23 January 2009, 03:40:45 PM »
Have just joined and been blown away by the standard of some of your modelling projects. Thought I'd share the results of the last 6 months or so of my labours... A 28mm fortress in the Crusader-style, loosely based on Sahyun in Syria, with good bits from Margat and Crac-des-Chevaliers thrown in for good measure. Mostly constructed out of insulation foam (pale green-not pink) with detailing inscribed with a blunt pencil. Hopefully this will be seen smothered with assorted fantasy figs at Salute this year (when it is finally finished!) using the 'Armies of Arcana' ruleset.

That is VERY impressive. I can see all kinds of scenarios working with it.

Yes I hope it will be versatile enough, despite the multiple level changes and awkward angles. Its made up of 15 different sections. I've made some wall sections removable which I hope to replace with damaged sections. The Donjon and Great Hall fit onto a large rock-gorge base. The whole thing is 3' wide x 4' long and 18" high in old money. If I was doing it again I'd make some changes, but overall I'm v pleased with the finished result. It will look a bit paler and dustier and the stonework will stand out more when it is finally done...

Beauty. A multitude of uses, from 1001 Nights to Crusaders to Karl May in the Ottoman Empire to Indiana Jones vs. the whirling dervishes.

I'm thinking a good Conan stealing into the palace at night to make off with the Ruby of Set scenario. Some roving guards, maybe a cantankerous sorceror, and presto... instant game.  :D

That is lo-ve-ly. Also frightening because it looks like a crapload of work. And it's got so many uses, as was previously mentioned.

I also like what you've done with those GB Moors. I've been wondering what kind of shield designs to paint on my Zamorian guards, now I think I know. And are those Roman auxiliaries? Never realized how good they look as fantasy arabian style soldiers.

When I see stuff like that... it makes me weep at my own lack of ability.

Great job!

Simply stunning! Wonderful work!  I completed a watchtower using pink board, and I find it to be great stuff to work with.  How in the world did you get round towers?  Did you cut down a cubic block?

I am blown away by this one.  Huzzah!  Well done!

My I bow before your talent.
Just how big is the whole piece? And, if you don't  mind, how many pieces?
(I always ask silly questions like that now so I can show my wife how other gamers/painters stow their pieces, their terrain etc..  lol)

No really, me like this castle alot (And now I'm wondering how to do something similar in Hirstarts  o_o ;D )
