Nurgle Fly Champion - Three champs and a dog pg.3
« on: July 22, 2016, 01:12:39 PM »
Can't believe I've actually painted - and finished - something! :o

Had fun working on this guy though it was a relearning process to remember how to paint. Sorry about the shine in the photos - there's no way I'm spraying Dullcote in a damp house in a damp part of Scotland in damp weather, and I'm not quite getting matt from my brush on enamel. I actually quite like a satin finish in person anyway but it's no good for photos. The eyes, spikes and tongue are gloss - the extreme highlights are entirely natural!  :D

Now I've just got to try and keep momentum going and paint more stuff.

FANTASTIC! The Fly Fellow painted up BEAUTIFULLY in his own fashion...SPLENDID brushwork & a LOVELY choice of colors. VERY WELL DONE!
The finish on the mini looks fine as it is. I would be tempted to leave it alone regardless of the humidity issues.

That looks great  8) 8) 8)

Maybe only add matt to the cloth when it cools down a bit?

Great job. This is one of those figures I've always wanted to pick up. The glossy parts rather suit it.

Thanks folks.  :) He's a great sculpt and well worth picking up if you can find one at a decent price. Great fun to paint.

Yeah I'll give it another crack when the weather turns. I think I might have put the  matt on too thick as well, which might be why it's shinier in the folds.

I'm not daring to varnish anything at the moment until it cools down  lol

I use a spray varnish and have had some nasty frosting in the past.

cheers

Terrific paint job! I'd leave it in gloss/satin - looks better on the tabletop and "in person", as you say. Also, I reckon that matt-varnished figures don't age nearly as well as their glossier kin.

And if it's good enough for Blanche and Morrison ...

Good old Dullcote. Guaranteed to give a perfect matt finish 50% of the time when the weather is perfect!  ;)

Cracking paint job there. Lovely flesh tone. Got this guy in the lead pile, painted as a teenager but long since stripped. The Nurgle champions are all rather nice, as are all the old Chaos champions but those green and brown colour schemes are such a joy to paint.

Thanks again. I've got some more figures ready to undercoat so maybe, just maybe, it won't be years before I get another figure painted.

I'm actually using your method of storing matt enamel upside down and then using the stuff that's collected on the lid. Obviously I don't have your knack of it. :)

Well bugger me! What's gone wrong there? What brand are you using? When you said Dullcote I just assumed the spray of doom.  lol
