I'm going to do it - more questions
« on: 14 August 2016, 02:54:07 PM »
Some useful tips from veterans in response to my questions on where to start in BoB, and thanks again to those who replied.  I am six chapters in to "Setting the East Ablaze" and am hooked.  So, decision taken and this will be the next project, but I have a few more questions to help get me started.

1) What are the sources for suitable buildings for Central Asia in 28mm 1/56 scale?
2) The rules "Setting the East Ablaze" look interesting from what I have seen.  There seems to be a free pdf version available on the net and also a published set sold by Caliver.  Which is the latest version and is the pdf authorised or pirated?
3) Are there any suitable campaign systems available commercially?

Thanks in advance.

You can also go the route of either adobe/middle eastern or Chinese houses depending where you plan to locate your campaign

Thank you for the links to the buildings.  I really need several villages to fight over, loot, and hide it in my games.  It is appreciated as I'm getting older and my fingers aren't as dexterious to make buildings from scratch.

Thanks very much for the links chaps.  Wow, those Kobblestone buildings look great.  Can you buy them in the UK or do they have to be ordered directly?

Sir Rodney,
Kobblestone buildings can only be ordered direct. They are nice folks and I have had very good luck with them.

I "think" that the free version of the rules that floats around the internet is something Steve/Count Ignatieff put out years ago and is an early version.   The rules from Caliver represent several (many) more years of playing and testing.  Well worth the price IMO............

Not sure when the version available from Caliver was published - the pdf is 2012 and the book has 30 more pages than the pdf.
I am going to have a look at the pdf and if it looks good will look at purchasing the latest book
I notice the scenario book is listed at Partizan Press - Red Dawn Rising but cannot find it on the Caliver site, is it still available?

PDF bears little resemblance to finished rules.  So I would recommend the rules (and yes I know I'm biased, but....).

Thanks for clarifying that.  I am happy to buy a copy of the finished version, and was also intrigued to hear about the scenario pack, Red Dawn Rising. Is that still available?

Rodders, yes should be.  Both available from Caliver books.
