A Day At The Races
« on: August 21, 2016, 04:10:40 PM »
Hello chaps.

I've recently purchased the rather wonderful Faustus Furius rules and am very much in the mood for some race action. I've been talking to Mary Beard online about the team colours. But now I need some miniatures. I'm looking at around 15mm as that gives a 90cm track which is just about right for my needs.

Has anyone had any experience with the Essex 15mm chariots, or are there any others people would recommend? Looking for a classic Roman circus feel, 2 or 4 horses are fine.

A long time ago I did chariot races using Essex. I would say they look great.
If doing it again, that is likely the way I would go. When my group and I did it
we did the chariots up in NFL football colors. We had a Packer, Viking, Lions and
Steelers fan in our group. Added some friendly humor in the games.

Thanks Poiter - I've had a rummage around on their site but can't find any 15mm chariots. Could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks Eric.

no problemo.
At the origin, in the late 90' i has asked to Outpost to realize this race chariot that we use in our club for a homemade great racing game.
A lot of hours of fun, i 'll expect to get back with Faustus Furius  lol lol lol

Cheers
Eric

I'd just like the say that Outpost Wargames Services were exactly the right people to go to for this - the chariots were £2 each and nice crisp little sculpts. I'll post pictures when they're done, but for anyone else looking to get into FaFu racing, these are a no-brainier.

Here's the outpost Wargames chariots: lovely little sculpts:

And here they are painted up:

Full details on what I did with them on the blog - including a guest appearance by Mary Beard - here:

We used to do a chariot race board game as our pre-Christmas game many years back. Then we all bought a 28mm chariot and team and one of the guys copied the game board onto a huge cloth that just fitted our 8' table. Unfortunately, the guy with the original board game has retired down to Cornwall and the guy with the cloth has "dropped off the radar" as well.
I miss the fun of our old games. Hope you enjoy yours.

That's a" funny" story because , we get the same story in our club.
One of our buddies bring us a homemade game based on a playing card activation's system.
I buy 12 Outpost chariots for the club.
and we have a lot of fun to play with. For club's cohesion it was a very excellent experience.
We get closer after such kind of game played all long night....
And the guys leaves us, bring back the game material....and then  that was the end of a good period of fun in my wargamer's life.

I hope to come back with Faustus Furius then  :D

Cheers
Eric

I have a bunch of Essex chariots from Biblical and Greek/Persion eras. The MPA range scythed chariot would work great. 4 horses, one rider, optional scythe pieces.

I've made up about two dozen custom teams, with a fantasy theme. Most of my teams and crews are from (cherry picked/special order) Splintered Light Miniatures. The chariots themselves are mostly scratch builds. Picked up the FF rules based on the various blogs and forum comments I've come across.

One of our players, laurent aka pif d'aigle, had made a 15mm conversion of this asterix's chariot.
We had ben hur and massala ones too. You always needs a good and evil character in this kind of game  lol lol lol

Cheers
Eric
