Sounds like your son is a quick study.

Have to agree with him when dealing with aliens, more shooting and less studying seems like a wise strategy.

I love the idea of Captain Kirk karate-chopping space demons!

I don't think an 'official' Aliens/Star Trek crossover has been done, which is odd given some of the bizzare stuff that gets drawn:-

I tried to get my son to use Spock to analyze the alien body structure, and explained the ideas of parasites.

Kirk also used his intelligence to figure out how to defeat the creatures (ie run and shoot and watch out for acid blood).
I may have some further missions where repair, or science analysis plays a larger role.  My son wasn't really interested  in science, more blasting.

It almost smacks of having to use Pulp Alley style challenges that need to be completed using the IQ skill, eg Spock wants to access the alien computer, so he uses his IQ skill + a tricorder, Scotty has to unlock a sealed door, so uses his IQ skill + a tool box.

What stats did you use for the Aliens?

I used the Raptor stats, added faster movement, melee attack, and extra reach with the snappy tongue thing.

The turkeys, I mean face huggers are faster but low roll to hit.

Here is a copy of the board:

Today my son and I are were playing a short mission, a medical emergency at a mining facility with a reactor leak.  No combat in this mission, but plenty of rolling to avoid radiation exposure.  I developed a few charts as well to represent the health of the casualties scattered around the board.

Unfortunately my son rolled poorly on the radiation exposure table several times.

Eventually he was able to start dragging the survivors to the shuttle since the radiation interfered with the transporter ;)

Nurse Chapel received a mega dose and was incapacitated.

The crew blasts off to treat the sick and injured aboard the starship.

All in all a fun adventure and quick.  I used the Away Missions rules again and was able to use the intelligence stat for the medical officers.  Only one survivor was pronounced dead on the scene.  Nurse Chapel will be out for the next 3 missions but SPock can return for the next one!

Inspired by this topic, I’ve just ordered and received my starship crew from CP Models:

https://cpmodels.co.uk/shop/sf1528-starship-crew/

I actually ordered two sets of them.  They look a little top-heavy (lots of hair), but they still look the part.

Long time ago I got a shuttle from BK, so all I need to work on now is what scatter terrain pieces to put on the playing surface that have an alien or outworlder look.

Wow some great terrain and table set! Great reporting but where is the hot looking alien woman where Kirk always gets the woman.

I need to order a couple of sets of those from CP Models.

I actually bought the shuttle from Indigo. It’s one of those little desk items they sell near the front.  10 dollars!
