Jeff, you'll be seeing some Perry Naval Brigade (and possibly some Copplestone), plus some Empress regular Brits to be painted as RMLI, sooner rather than later. :-)
Brook's book is very good, and there are plenty of accounts of Naval Brigades in action in the Zulu and Sudan campaigns, in West and East Africa, during the Boer War and Boxer Rebellion, amongst others.
Then there's the earlier actions in central India during the Mutiny, New Zealand and with Rajah Brooke in Sarawak, for which both the Mutineer Miniatures and Empress models are perfect - though putting together a force of Chinese pirates and Sea Dyaks (having read Flashman's Lady) may be a bit more of a challenge but not impossible. IIRC, the Durham Club did a big game using Sharp Practice a couple of years ago...
