Galloping Major F&I War Conversions
« on: 20 September 2016, 09:38:01 AM »
I've been working on converting some Galloping Major figures for my F&I War collection.
I removed all the heads from theses figures and replaced them with Kings Mountain Miniatures
heads. I'm happy with the way that these are turning out. I ran a soft brown wash over them to
show the detail. I enjoy having unique figures, so it's worth the time and trouble.
I find the GM sculpts to be the best F&I War figures. I have all the stock figures, so it was time to expand.

They work well.  :)

It's amazing how something as simple as a head swap can totally transform a figure, I like the different look  :-*

Agreed it gives some great variety. Now let's see them with some paint on them.

That's a lot of head swaps. Well done. The borrowed heads sit very well on the shoulders, I always have trouble with that.
You'll shoot your eye out, kid!

Agreed! I've never been able to get head swaps to look natural. Excellent job...can't wait to see them painted up!

Guys, It just takes a bit of practice and patience to do these. The hardest part is to get a clean cut that separates the original head from the body.
Use a pair of clippers that have a slight curve to the pincers. This allows you to get under the neck.
I never cut heads off. I twist them off.
This is where practice comes in.
You have to use a touch hard enough to cut through the neck, but light enough that you're not squeezing the clippers together.
Use just enough pressure to twist the head off. This will give you a flat surface to drill into.

To get the placement of the new head as you want it, try this.
Use a small spot of green stuff or any putty (about a pinhead) and stuff it into the hole in the neck. Use a wet toothpick and push it all the way down. Push the new head into the hole. Now you can situate the head in any position and it will stay put.
You can make adjustments now,  so that the head looks natural.
An Exacto knife, some small files and a pin vise (with drill bits) are all you need.

Any questions?

The Kings Mountain Over Mountain Men were sculpted to match the Galloping Major size figures. That's why the heads look so good. For you guys in Europe, Lance will be carrying the entire Kings Mountain line, including the separate head packs.

Think of all the new figures you can make!!!

Thanks for that tutorial kingsmt. I hope it's not copyrighted. I saved it off and may pass it on some time.
