Of Gods and Mortals Norse - models for Fenrir and troll wolf?
« on: 15 October 2016, 08:18:10 PM »
I'm collecting a small band led by Loki, and would like to include Fenrir and some troll wolves (blast, or were they wolf trolls?).
Any suggestions for suitable models?

PS - the mythic aspect fits the Ancient board better, but this is set in the Dark Ages - mods please move if it should not be in the Dark and Middle Age area.

I have been thinking about a suitable wolf for Carcaroth from the Silmarillion.  I liked the great wolf from Basicks, but this seems out of production.

Can the Fenrir from Blood Rage be bought as an individual miniature?

Those Basicks wolves are really nice but for that price I think I would go for the GW Fenrisian wolves.

You might be able to find the Blood Rage Fenrir wolf somewhere. Ebay? It would fit the bill nicely.

Thanks for the suggestions - I like the Mantic Werewolves, as wolf trolls - the only problem I'm having is that they're not listed as 'big' troops in the army list, and would be the same size as my 'big' trolls (which are also wolvish - I'm using some old Rackham models to stick to the theme). Then again Mantic models are not large....
For Fenrir himself I I was thinking of a proper wolf-shaped - er - wolf.
The Basicks ones are rather nice, if I manage to trawl one up. The Blood Rage Fenrir - ditto (the chains are a bonus as they fit in with the mythology too). Again, I'd have to try to trawl one, there are a couple on ebay it seems.

Thanks!  :D

Given that Fenrir is huge. Maybe try a 54mm wolf?

You could do worse than get something like a Schleich figure and have a play around with some chains for conversion.

That's curious, I didn't seem to get my own thread up on the list of unread, and only saw the last three replies now.
Thanks for the continued suggestions.
@Inkpaduta - I did go for something similarly large scale - see below.
@Citizen Sade - that's a nice one, and I don't mind resin models. However I have come up with a solution, and:
@Cubs - you win the cigar! Thinking on the lines of Inkpaduta's suggestion I was considering an out of scale model, and found the very same Schleich wolf you pointed out - and he IS large: 11cm long, 4.4cm high, without a base. There are other Schleich wolves, but the snarl on this one is perfect.
Having just received him (will take pics once he's based) I thought about chains, but decided I'd rather see this fine fellow free and unchained - so he's either before his chaining, or after, having managed to get rid of the lot.

Really? I'd have gone for the Redbox one! I shall smoke my imaginary cigar, secure in the knowledge that it won't make my mouth taste like the bottom of a parrot's cage, like real ones used to do.

Yep - this one is cheaper, I took a fancy to it, and I discovered and ordered it before Citizen Sade's indication.
Enjoy the parrot-free cigar  :D
