Photobucket Problems
« on: 04 November 2016, 02:19:15 PM »
Hi guys. As the title says, anyone else use this image hosting site and having problems with it? I can't sign in and any images I've posted in the past aren't working.  :'(

Yeah I noticed that. Their website says they're down for maintenance.

Down for maintenance again  ::)

Give it a while and it'll be back up.

I moved to imgur a long time ago - no limits and much more user-friendly!

Yeah I use imgur and would definitely recommend it.

Something that really annoys me about photobucket is when somebody posts an image here hosted by that site, and I want a better look so I open it in a new tab.... The whole photobucket layout is irritating, messy, full of ads and stuff (or so it seems), not very viewer-friendly, seems to take a long time to load...

Imgur seems way simpler, cleaner, and less messy. So as a viewer of photos I'd love to see more of you using it rather than photobucket!

How easy would it be to transfer all the photos I'have on Photobucket to Imgur?

cheers

Hmm, might look into that if Photobucket can't sort out their issues.

Photobucket has been a dumpster fire for years. It's so maggot-riddled with extraneous scripting that browsing with any kind of security, privacy, or ad-blocker plugins renders it completely non-viewable.

I highly recommend ditching it regardless of how the current situation sorts out. Friends don't let friends use Photobucket.
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

So that's a recommendation for Imgur from Fram.  Any other options people have tried and liked?

It's probably easy to move the photos, just download them and repost them on the new service. Updating all the forum posts and whatever to point to the new service will be long and tedious if not impossible. So, copy them but also leave them on PB so you don't have to do all that other work.

Photobucket limits is what pushed me toward my blog being the main source of photos as well.  I upload far more photos to my blog than I do to threads most of the time.

Yes, I'm not sure I'd bother changing your old image links if, like James, you have a lot of them. I still have a couple hundred images in old posts on various forums hosted on my old Photobucket account myself and they'll still work as long as Photobucket remains a going concern so there's no reason to change them, other than the fact that actually going to the Photobucket page is a horrible process due to their awful kludged-up website, as Connectamabob has pointed out.

If you're the type that wants everything in one place, then you would have to migrate everything over, but you don't actually HAVE to unless it really bothers you having two image accounts on two websites. Even then you could upload all your images to imgur and slowly go back and update old links gradually over time.

I can't imagine having to redo all the links in, say, James' 100-page VSF Mars thread. Lordy, I'd lose my marbles.
