Question for the blue foam Stonemasons
« on: 16 November 2016, 06:57:33 PM »
Just how durable are the finished buildings?
I've worked with it a lot over the years both as a builder for insulation and as a modeller for terrain making and it's never struck me as being particularly durable.
So how does it fare on the table top?
Cheers

A coat of thinned down wood glue and several coats of paint and it'll do nicely  :)

If you throw it across the room and stand on it, not so much  ;)

cheers

I've been experimenting with a UPVA glue/watered-down DAS modelling clay/acrylic medium mix. Think sludge!

So far the results give a stronger surface and add texture.

A covering of spackle, wood glue and sand (basically cement!) will preserve them for quite some time. Don't abuse the pieces, and they last. I build pieces for a large game store, and most have seen daily use for years without much wear and tear. And this with a customer base that tosses them aroung and rarely puts them away properly. About once a year we check them and do minor repairs, but honestly the GW 40k city ruins need more repairs (pieces break off, sometimes entire walls!)
