Great work!  Love to see this project coming along and that repair station is a thing of beauty. I think we share the same philosopy of cheap-broken-toy-terrain. I get mine at resale shops around here that are a goldmine for this kind of thing.

Everyday I am thankful that there are children out there playing hard, having fun and breaking their toys so that I can pick them up cheap at the swap meet... the circle of life.  I was very lucky to have found two of these GI Joe playsets in basically the same shape except my other one still has its original crane.  If you notice in the picture of the original piece on the right side there is an orange attachment.  I removed that when I permanently folded up the end pieces/wings on mine, and I turned that orange piece into a monitoring station which you can see near the rear of mine next to the row of tubes.

Nice work bringing the greebling that would otherwise be invisible into the useable section of the piece.  Looks like you also turned what I think was the missile launcher into a piece of ground-level machinery.

Unfortunatley mine is sans-tower which is disappointing since for next year's Mech Attack game I'll be adding a tarmack and needing some kind of control-tower.  Not worried though. Something will present itself as it always does!

Great scenery you're putting up there. I think I could see something similar happening here.. 

Does the plastic take paint well? Some sort of trick to it? I find that most toys don't take paint that well.

The Mega rig parts I have seem to be made of polyurethane. It can be harder to paint, but I've found that Krylon Camo paints (which have a little "FUsion for plastic" label) stick well to plastic. Even better if you lightly sand the plastic first.

I can't speak for painting the Mega-Rig, but I have used Vallejo acrylics on hard plastics and what I have heard referred to on LAF as bendies.  I have had no problems.  I do spray them with Dullcote when done to act as a stay-fast.

Earlier I indicated that I had ordered the WotC Emperor's Shadow Guard #33 figures but stated that I was unsure how they would work with my 28mm figures in terms of size since I had not had an in-person view of the actual figure/pictures only.  Today my order arrived, and I can say now that the figures are beautiful and will be great with my 28s in terms of size.

In my desire to have lots of things happening on the streets of my spaceport, the option for a variety of speeder-style bikes is attractive.  The classic/Star Wars’ speeder bikes are available from both WotC and Action Fleet.  Rey’s speeder is available from Hot Wheels, and WotC also does a nice swoop bike.  To add to this I have found three “bikes” from Heroclix that I am repurposing for my Space collection.  My knowledge of Heroclix characters (DC and Marvel) is limited so pardon my lack of clear name id of these figures because in two of the cases their bases and thus their names were missing.  One of the three is the 2 Gun Kid, a second is the “Archer” (name might be incorrect but close) and the third is a knight-like figure on a very space-looking bike.  I have basically replaced the riders with what I regard as more appropriate figures from Heroclix and WotC.  In the case of the third bike mentioned above, I needed to do a little modification of the bike itself to make it work.  I took handlebars from the “Archer” bike to make it easier to attach a new figure in terms of that figure’s ability to steer the bike.   I included one picture of the modified figures and bikes that have not as yet been repainted.  This takes me to a total of 20 bikes for my spaceport using 6 different bike styles.

Excellent work.  The mixing of parts and paint brings them nicely out of their original universes.
