Now that the tower and wall section are done, I'm sort of stuck until I can get them cast. I really don't want to sculpt a new wall section to make the gate, it would be a LOT easier to just convert the existing wall to a gate section. But, rather than just waiting, I've done some quick little 'bits' to dress up the scene!
The part of the wall I'm making is basically the South Gate of Troy - one of the cool features there is a row of stelae that once stood right in front of the tower. The bases and stumps of these are all that remain now, but many of the artists reconstructions of the South Gate have done a nice job of imagining what they may have looked like, so I have taken these a little further on mine. I did 6 of them, each a little different, and each about man-size, with the couple in the middle a little taller, representing a family of sorts.
I kept the inscriptions really simple - I imagine that Trojan would have been a cuneiform similar to the script the Hittites used.
Hittite CuneiformIf anyone knows of any books or sites that discuss the stelae at length, please let me know. I was not able to find any mention of them online, and the Osprey Troy 'Fortress' book does not mention them all, though the artist did show them in his reconstructions.
Here's that picture again:

And here's a picture from the Age of Bronze comic book I think, showing the stelae and a priest making an offering there:

And here is a picture I found online of this spot in modern day, you can clearly see the bases and stumps still there. Too bad that is all that's left!

So that's what I had to work with.
The Alan Lee book shows some stelae too, and I did one of his depictions as well (the one with the hands reaching up to the sun).
Here's my sculpts - these were made with Beesputty again. Each one took me less than an hour, they were fun to work on at the end of the day:

A side view, with one of my Trojans shown for scale.

Hope you guys like them.
