Those look very good. The basing is excellent.

Welcome back by the way.

Thanks! Good to be back!

SPEAKING of being back, I decided to play a solo game today to get the scenario brain going. As a direct follow up to the last game of Spectre Ops I played 18 months ago, I decided that the SAS should probably get their man and Captain Amari back.

As always (god it feels good to say that), it's on the site at https://www.hntdaab.co.uk/blog/2021/02/13/battle-report-operation-odeysus-spectre-operations/

that was one great Battle Rep. Good to see the SAS geting some of theirs back after all this time.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Great write up of the AAR.
Lovely to see your figures and terrain on the table.

Thanks everyone, glad you liked it. Hopefully, I'll be getting some more games out soon

Great report.

Was this GM-Player or Player vs Player?

This was me playing as both team but focused on the SAS. The Bazis had some Standard SOPs written up for what they would try and do, and I through in a few extra command tests when it came to decision making.

How do you like the Tiny Wargames cloth mats?

I'm thinking their North Africa mat might be good for both my 6mm and 20mm games set in and around the region. I don't want anything too green, as that would limit my usage for battles in the Sinai, but too sandy rules it out for anything more Afghan. This would be much easier if the Minister for War and Finance let me spend what I want  ;)

Sorry, late to the party, but this is their N. African print, albeit on mousepad:
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

Nice painting on the Delta team.

[Edit] not sure what happened to my original text.

I completely understand and agree with you on this.  It can be fun to game modern scenarios with actually places and events in mind, but sometimes it leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.  Even after reading books on WWII, WWI, and even as far back as the American Civil War, there is something off-putting about playing a game about something so horrible as war.

That being said, I think there is a way of respectfully taking part in the game while also having fun, and being able to draw lines on what you will field on the table is one of those ways.

Perfectly understandable and reasonable approach.

I look forward to seeing how your imagi-nations progress

I totally understand that. My ultra moderns are mostly set in fictional or no longer existing imaginary nations with some real world analogs. Like I am Using The Prussian Democratic Republic for more post Warsaw Pact rump state.
Causing problems in Eastern Europe. I am having it mostly threaten the Natural City state of Danzig and the Baltic nations. But say if stuff does happen in the region, I will bring a few of my other imagination back such as Zubrowka and The Grand Duchy of Courland.
Hell might do that anyways. Then I didn't have to worry about some one griping that I didn't paint their countries uniforms correctly.  lol

I get where you're coming from, and Strange-real is a great idea.

I've been mulling over a 'modern roman empire' setting for a while for similar reasons.  My Rome wouldn't be as all-powerful as the Empire in some fiction (like the Romanitas novels) and would have some vaguely recognisable history, nations and individuals, but would open things up for more wild cults and independence movements etc.

Might start a thread to begin developing some ideas.

If your looking at a modern take on Rome, Check out the 2011 Coriolanus movie.
