Always good to see some more Antares stuff. Some very nice conversion work there. The Native Americans fit very well.

I agree that Antares would benefit greatly from a decent index. Having said that, I found the rules pretty easy to get to grips with largely because it sticks to a few simple mechanisms (order dice and roll under a particular stat on a D10). Because the rules are fairly logical, it's not usually hard to work out what you're doing even if you can't find the exact reference.

I'm really quite taken with the game but wouldn't argue with many of the comments here.

I believe Warlord have made a downloadable index available which might help. I quite like Rick Priestley's chatty tone but I guess it's a matter of preference. I do agree it makes some of the more unusual rules more difficult to find.

All that said, the core rules in a small game are quite easy to get to grips with. A 500 point game (perhaps 3 units of 5 infantry and a support option) is satisfying enough, especially while learning.

I used some Antares Concord troops to make my Freeborn command squad.

Nice. I've had no interest in the game, but your painting schemes and basing is making me rethink of at least getting some miniatures to paint.

Brilliant stuff, and those Concord conversions are lovely.

I always thought of Antares as Rick Priestley's attempt to update Rogue Trader, and your colour schemes really reinforce that look.  You make them look colourful and fascinating without going over the top.  You just know there's a real far-future story to go with them.

I love how weird and exotic these look - well done!

If I may ask, where are the heads from please? They look like a good fit. :)

Cheers guys. It's been the first time in ages I've actually enjoyed painting.

Major, the heads are from the Woodland Indians plastics (same as the earlier photos).

I've just completed Sarissa Precision's Algoryn Drop Fortress from their Antares range. I'm truly amazed at what can be achieved with mdf and card.

Nicely done! :-* The OSL really pops! Any ideas for a board that these will be part of?

Thanks Andym. I think the colours would suit a desert board (mine is currently covered in Normandy or I'd have taken the photos there!). The earthy browns should fit in most setting, though.

I love how bright all the armies on display are. The Freeborn army is of course fantastic!

I'm resisting Antares but there are some great models amongst the ranges. They seem to take converting quite well.too!

I'll stick the knife in and say that the metals (especially) are beautiful sculpts and are cast perfectly.  I have had some grotty historical metals from Warlord over the years, but the Antares models are amongst the best I've painted.

Lovely pictures - I love how colourful and striking your Freeborn look!  :D

@ Sir_Theo:

I agree with Momotaro, the metals are really nice. I know the plastic are fashionable/cheaper, but the metals are aces (and I actually got some more metal C3 a little while back for that very reason). ;)
