Bloodbeards Sci-Fi Blog (Deadzone, Warpath)
« on: 27 February 2017, 09:59:30 PM »
Hi all. Welcome to my Sci-Fi blog. I already have two blogs running on Lead Adventure. One for my Frostgrave/Dungeon Saga/Heroquest project and one for my Post Apocalyptic stuff (The Walking Dead and Devil's Run).

Deadzone
I love the light hearted fluff and stories in the Warpath Universe by Mantic. Grimdark is fine and all (love the old 40k setting and Necromunda). But Warpath Universe seem to have more room for my beloved Firefly etc.

Part of my February Paint Pledge was to paint up all my currently done Rebs for Deadzone.

Done painting, varnishing and weathering them today, just in time. This is some lovely models, they have so much character. Very little conversion work done here.

I've hotwater changed the pose on the human commander and the sphyr (shark guy) loader. I've added a helmet head from dreadball extreme to a grogan (ogre big gun guys).

I lost the tail for the Teraton shock trooper (armored turtles), so gave him one from the Plague Teraton.

I've painted up the suitable mercs in the same colour scheme.

Base coated blue, red spot colour, yellow/black stripes on all minis.

Bases are made with a 50:50 mix of play dough and miliput. Used the Greenstuff World factory rollpin, clock gears, jewelry chain and plastic tube.

These guys still need two striders (walker battle suits), a converted dreadball mvp Kraaw (then green, white winged guy), two Yndij (the lion monkeys. Dreadball mutant body, Frostgrave gnoll heads) and all the upcoming Star Saga Rebs (one of the expansions, I ordered it on kickstarter).

The entire 21 man, alien, woman, robot, drone - team!

Teratons. The small ones are the males, the big ones are female. Teleporting space turtles, size xxl.

Female human commander, two human troopers and a Judwan medic (a pascifist race).

Yndij - an agile race. A Commander Eddak P'mera and two troopers.

Grogans are big brutes. Zee are genetically enginered scavenging monkeys.

Sphyr are fishfolk, shark people. Here with a human missile launcher specialist and two observation drones.

A Sorak (purple), Rin Nomad (yellow) and Kraaw (green).

365 days - 365 models challenge
Made a personal challenge to paint at least 365 models this year. In order to make my piles of unpainted miniatures less big. I'm a sucky photographer, so the models obviously look better in real life. I've managed to find that sweet spot, where I'm painting as quickly as possible, while not hating my result.

Currently this is where I'm at in 2017 - so I'm a bit ahead. And I want to continue doing that.

January (31 days): 25 TWD Survivors, 5 TWD cars, 4 barricades, 1 badge = 35 (+4)

February (28 days): 2 TWD barricades, 1 dumbster, 2 mailboxes, 11 loot counters, 6 tents, 1 campfire, 1 tank, 21 deadzone rebs = 45 (+17)

Nice to see some Deadzone/Warpath love, I wish Mantic would focus more and flesh out their IP's instead of constantly flitting from Kickstarter to Kickstarter.

Thank you Malebolgia. I'm very pleased with the colour scheme on them. They can look as both freedom fighters and terrorists.

I've think that's excatly what they done with the Warpath Universe. Combining Deadzone, Warpath, Dreadball and Star Saga. It's getting nice and fluffy. ... I don't know anything about Kings of War - or if it has any setting at all. I played some Dungeon Saga - and I just imagine it as Hero Quest as I know nothing of Mantica.

Plague for Deadzone - and a new blog
I've run multible different plogs on multible foums over the years. And I've recently decided to try an make a single one. To collect my hobby work, my gamification in school projects, tutorials etc into one place. So for some high res, detail shots, thought on the models and so on - check out the page I made for the plague. http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/p/warpath-universe-plague.html

And if you feel like it, jump over and give my (very empty) facebook page a like. I'll be putting up some tutorials and the like there as well. https://www.facebook.com/BloodbeardsGarage/

Well that's good. It's the whole point of sharing stuff, sharing inspiration!

Finished Shipping Container
Finished a shipping container I started a long time ago. Looks pretty good. It's a pretty easy build and cheap (near free). I've written up a tutorial on my off site blog: Container Tutorial

More pictures etc. on the blog.

Sci-fi bases
Also wrote a small tutorial on how I'm making my sci-fi bases.
See it here.

Facebook page
Blogging is all fun and games for me. It's a way to collect and describe my hobbywork. I've made a facebook page for it. Feel free to throw it a like: Bloodbeards Garage

Thank you man. My painting is really low key. Bse coat, 1 layer of paint, quick shade. Easy, fast, but it looks better than plastic. And it lets me put a lot of painted models out.

Deadzone Marauders
Been pledging 20 Marauders for this month. Done a bit of conversions to four models, to get more options. I love the modern army style of the Mantic orcs.

List of bits, more pictures and what Ive done in my blogspot here LINK.

More bases
Still lots of scfi models to do, so made more miliput/playdoh bases. Tutorial LINK here.

Industrial Crane£
My first build for Deadzone terrain. Bought a 25£ terrain set (with 22 x 3'' tiles). I only used 5 tiles for this and sprue. Wrote a tutorial for the  blog LINK here.
Lots of photos and WIPs in the blog.

Thanks
Thank for looking!

Facebook page
It's all fun and games for me, but the blog also serves the purpose for sharing my 'gamification' projects. Teaching with boardgames in public elemtary school.

So any like to the blog facebook page is much appriciated - it really is! As more likes is more 'power' for when I push project ideas in a sometimes heavy system that is public education.

Dang, that Sprue crane is a thing of genious.  It's like the repetitiveness of the round injection points (usually an eyesore) reaches a critical mass and suddently it doesn't look like sprue anymore, it looks like a deliberate aesthetic choice. Really well done.

Can you share more about the insulating foam sheets you used on the container that has the great ridged pattern. I'm not familiar with that material, but it looks great!

That sprue crane is a thing of genius. I'm going to make some sprue scaffolding for my next urban project.

Thank you very much Eilif and James. I made a mistake on the link above. Here's a link to the tutoral for the crane, and a lot more detail shots off it. Industrial Crane page link

I've delibrately chosen the pieces of sprue with as many injection mold dots on them as possible. I figure it looks a bit like giant bolts or nuts. Most importantly (with cutting the sprue uneven) it helps bringing out the drybrush and gives wash a place to pool up.

Insulation Foam
It's for putting under floorboards. I installed a 'laminate floor' in my house, big 40 cm x 80 cm boards, really hard material. I got them with tile graphics on, looks really good. But you have to put noise dampening foam plates underneath. It's super cheap, comes in giant squares and different thickness (I use 3 mm).

It's cool as it's curroded on one side and flat on the other. You can draw in it with a pen, and it'll keep its form. So perfect for making walls, floor boards etc in models. I'll write a blog on it at some point. Here I've used it for a landing platform (along with a lot of sprue).

Where in the country are you based?

Fyn. I'll drop you a PM Argonor.

Deadzone Marauders
My May month paint pledge was painting all my Marauders for Deadzone. I've just finished them in time.

As always, there more photos in the blog. There's also a lot text, conversion WIPs etc over here: Bloodbeard's Garage

I love the style on these orcs. The modern military look is super cool. Mantic will at some point redoo them and make a plastic sprue, I hope the keep this style.

As always I appreciate any comments you might have and if you would follow the blog over on Facebook.

Very Cool.
Deadzone never took off in our group (though we pledged for the first KS).  With Shadow War Launching, I think there's some good possibilities for crossover of Deadzone/Warpath minis making their way into Shadow War. Especially seeing that some Deadzone deals seem to cover most of the options for Shadow War factions for a much lower cost.
