Able Spacemen painted
« on: 10 March 2017, 10:45:26 PM »
First painting I've done for a few months and the first faces I've done for a very, very long time. Still have an all consuming fear of highlighting and can't do a fine highlight to save my life. Had fun though, and I wish I could paint everything orange, green and brown.

I think the are of a very high quality and the highlighting is pretty damn good.

Yeah, as has been said, the colour choices are great! :-*

Any chance of some colour recipes? Especially for the metal and orange. Ta much!

Magnificent. Just placed the order. Now I'll just have to find a suitable spacesuit colour that won't end up in plagiarism.  lol

What about a light grey with orange shoulder and knee pads, and a thin orange(or blue) stripe running up sides? Nothing says sci fi better than grey and orange(apparently!) ;)

They'll go to my Strontium Dog side project. Greens and yellows and oranges are already in abundance there, so maybe some restraint might be in order, as you say. Possibly grey with a bluish tint.

Thanks all!  :)

Any chance of some colour recipes? Especially for the metal and orange. Ta much!

The orange is the old GW Foundation Macharius Orange. Lovely paint, covers really well and thins beautifully for feathering. I really hope the current Jokaero Orange is as nice.

So it was a Macharius Orange basecoat, wash of Army Painter Strong Tone, layered with thinned Macharius, deepen shading with Strong Tone only in recesses (thinning with Lamian Medium helps), repeat as necessary, tidy up again with Macharius then a bit of a highlight/glaze with a Macharius/ tiny bit of yellow mix.

The silver metal is Stormhost Silver basecoat shaded with multiple passes of Lamian Medium thinned AP Strong Tone then AP Dark Tone - not washed on but painted into the recesses and where else I wanted it. Not hitting the raised surfaces means you don't have to highlight again with the silver, though a tidy up can help too. You've got to be careful as if you apply a second coat too soon, the AP Tones can lift and clot. Which is annoying as hell. Tide marks can be a problem too, but thinning with medium seems to minimise this. It's the same way I painted the armour (and the orange shield) on my Chaos Warriors. I really need to experiment with a Lamian Medium thinned brown to replace the AP Tones to see if the lifting and clotting issue can be avoided.

The leather is a basecoat of AP Leather Brown with a bit of black added, washed with AP Dark Tone, then highlighted through AP Leather Brown to AP Monster Brown.

Andrew, I know the others are being very kind, and I'm sure you appreciate it, but I quite understand your anguish on the painting. PLEASE, save yourself further angst, and send them directly to me.

Once again, it's the least I can do.
