Chinese walled compound project
« on: April 12, 2017, 04:05:31 PM »
Hi LAFers.

I thought I'd share my Chinese compound with you, now in it's finished form! I use it for BoB as well as Samurai. I also made up some rice padi fields to go with and a river to irrigate them. It was quite a fun project, with lots of learning curves on the way!

I looked at traditional Chinese buildings and especially the Hutongs..traditional suburbs of Beijing. Also lots of Kung Fu Panda with the kids! I designed the main components in autocad and then 3D printed them. Then made moulds and cast in resin so they are detailed and durable. The compound walls I did in the same way, though cast these in Hydrocal plaster..a very strong plaster, reinforced with glass fibre. The buildings all have lift off roofs and I made the compound in such a way that you could break it in half to make two smaller walled compounds or one larger one, with an inner courtyard if wanted.

As you can see, the resin sections are bonded to foamcore, giving it huge extra strength and some flexibility.

The roofs are all barrel tiles and resin, lifting off. They are all curved.

Hope you enjoyed!
TJG

Quite so! Also just the right mix of 3d printing and hand crafting. This is a great example of how I imagine 3d printing contributing to awesome hobby projects.

Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing
