Gentlemen, if you will forgive the indulgence I'm a long-time lurker who has taken much inspiration form this site. In the spirit of giving something back I present Commodore Lyme-Pickell's last disater.
By way of introduction I've only recently got back into figure painting after a two decade haitatus and the following pics were taken on my phone so please forgive the painting and photo quality.

This was the last of three failed expeditons into Darkest Africa. On with the story..

Cdre Lyme-Pickell, having decided stamp out slavery in the region, has taught a stern lesson to a local village by looting anything that wasn't nailed down. WIth impecable and enitrely fortuotous timeing he decended on the native village while the men folk were awaqy raiding a neighbout. All he has to do now to resote his honour after recent defeats is make it safely back to the waiting gunboat HMS Roe Island with his loot.

Just as the brave Cdre was extracating himself and his loot the slightly irate owners return

Seeing that their worldly goods are about to be carried off they make haste to recover their trinkets

The cunning Cdre has cleverly left an ambush for any pursuing force. Locally raised Askaris were concealed in the dense jungle. Tragically they can't shoot straight An the jungle warriors let fly witheir boom boom sticks picking off a couple of matelots.

The poor Cdre. I don't see a bright future for him.

Looking forward to more of the battle.

The density of the jungle causes difficulty in identifying targets

24022010130 by Admiral Fraser, on Flickr

Worringly for the Cdre his left flank looks vulnerable as swift jungle archers get their nike's on and make rapid progress

24022010131 by Admiral Fraser, on Flickr

Abandoned by Lyme-Pickell and left to their own fate the brave Askaris are and overwhelmed

24022010132 by Admiral Fraser, on Flickr

As the Cdre attempts to extricate himself more trouble arrives

24022010133 by Admiral Fraser, on Flickr

CPO Snodgrass and a small detatchment decide to hold off the enraged jungle warriors. Urging the Cdre and the loot to save themselves.

24022010134 by Admiral Fraser, on Flickr

If only the loot wasn't so heavy maybe better time could be made

HMS Roe Island opens up with her 4" to provide fire support to the Cder

The bearer's wonder wether they should stop for a brew of tea

24022010137 by Admiral Fraser, on Flickr

Lyme-Pickell's only hope is to hold off they attacking hordes and make a run for it with his Mission Essential Unit whilst Roe Island covers his retreat [tactical of course]
Unfortuneately the supporting gunbaot doesn't appear capable of hitting the right country let alone a swift of foot enemy

24022010138 by Admiral Fraser, on Flickr

The moments of uncommon bravery were common that afternoon as Jack Tar after Jack Tar sold themselves deeply for the Cdre's loot.

Gallanry however could not make up for sheer numbers

Certainly looks like it.
I have a couple, and theyre usually available on ebay for quite reasonable prices.

Superb report. Looks great fun.
(not a critiscism, but I would love to see clearer pictures)
Thanks for posting, and I look forward to more,  :)

Still, a chap ought to look smart in front of the men, don't you think?

I think it is some form of aquarium plastic plant. Terrain was courtesy of our host. I was responsible for the gunboat which still isn't finished but surficed for the game.

The pictures were taken on my phone camera with a very shaky hand. They weren't intended to end up on here but I was learning photo posting on the site. There do exist some clearer ones which I will track down and post.

Cdre Lyme-Pickell was recalled to the Admiralty for interview without coffee and the photos of our new Sudan campaign are a little better.

I'm encouraged to think about taking proper pictures that tell the story as part of the game now I can post here.

Very nice gunboat, should be lovely when finished. I hope Bezzo sees it  ;)

I agree about the pics, shame they aren't a bit clearer, but the terrain looks great and it looks like a very enjoyable game! I look forward to seeing the other pics. You should certainly post more reports using a better camera.

And that's another amusing pun name I wish I'd thought of  :(

Oh and don't hang about posting the Sudan pics!

Lovely game. I've gotten some inspiration to finish my own gunboat.
