Today we see a musical film about Soviet pilots

"Only "Old Men" Are Going to Battle"

One of the best Russian films about the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The old men (senior soldiers) in this squadron were no older than twenty, but those wet behind the ears, a reinforcement fresh from flying schools with accelerated training, were not allowed to go to battle for quite a while They were yet to experience everything the heat of the battle, the joy of the first victory over the enemy, the grandeur of a brotherhood strengthened with blood, the first love, and the bitterness of a loss. And there came the day when, on hearing the command only old men are going to battle, it was them who rushed to their planes.

Today, watch a movie "Attack on Leningrad".

The winter of 1941.
From the sky rained without stopping bombs, turning houses into ruins, and the survivors - the homeless, freezing - stifles hunger. Hitler was convinced that the blockade of Leningrad people will turn into a herd of wild beasts tearing each other's pieces of food. But citizens remain human beings. In the film, two heroines: Nina Tsvetkova and Kate Davis.
One - a policeman, devout member of the Komsomol, the daughter of Civil War hero, cut down in battle with the White Guards.
The second - a noblewoman, who was born in Petersburg, the daughter of General White Guards, journalist, absolutely not adapted to life - not to mention the unimaginable hardships of the siege.
They were supposed to be enemies, but the life of another judge. Life, for which they fought desperately.

The Dawns Here Are Quiet

The film is set in Karelia (North-West of Russia, near Finland) in 1941 during WWII. In a beautiful and quiet wilderness far from the front-line there is an anti-aircraft artillery point, where sergeant Vaskov is stationed with a group of many young women in training. One of the women while sneaking from camp to visit her young son sees two German paratroopers. Vaskov takes five of the women to stop the two paratroopers...

Good stuff, thanks for sharing. In That last clip, the opening scene was from Enemy at the Gates. That river crossing scene was pretty awesome.

That D Day mix with Ramstein was great. Reminded me of the stories my grandfather told me about the Big Red 1 and the Invasion of Normady. He hit the beach watched his friend get shot in the gut with a HMG, his buddy tried to hold his guts in while he was still running before he died. My grandfather was shot in the butt while digging a foxhole for cover. A  medic grabbed him, patched him up and he continued to fight all through. He told me how cold it was to be soaked, caked with sand, you could not wash as you conserved your water to drink and for medical purposes. He told me about having to go grab bodies to pull ammo, food, meds, clean socks, anything really to survive...

My brother in law's father was in the German army towards the end of the war, recruited into the youth militia they gave him a uniform, rifle, a few clips of ammo and some chocolate and cigs when they came under mortar fire he just ran like hell and ran into some Americans, he threw down his rifle begged to be let go offering his chocolate, cigs and money to just let him run. They did....he got to America and started his own buisness here he was always afraid to go back to Germany to visit his family in fear he would be arrested for being in the German army.

Yes, war is hell of shit.

I have one grandfather - an artillery officer of the Red Army - the wounded was captured at Stalingrad. Died in captivity. Second grandfather - ordinary infantryman - lost a leg in the Battle of Kursk.
