The Government Advance-party, consisting of 3 infantry battalions, 2 squadrons of dragoons and a medium artillery piece. The detachment is commanded by Sir Henry Hawley.

The Jacobite Rear-guard, tasked with slowing down Government forces as they advance on Edinburgh. The detachment is commanded James Drummond, 6th Earl and 3rd titular Duke of Perth.

Jacobite Rebellion 1745 Battle Report - Punch-up in Bonnyrigg. @RobJonesHistory took charge of the Government forces this afternoon, commanding the advance guard on a foraging mission into the small Scottish village. Being a fellow Celt, I obviously commanded the Jacobite forces.

The opening moves saw the lead battalion of red coats scouring the village for food and drink, as their supply lines were stretched. The Jacobites were warned of the enemy’s advance and Sir James Drummond decided to send a small all arms detachment to spoil the English plans and hopefully to deny them of vital supplies.

First of is how we (Vodkafan & I) base the troops.
40mm frontage  50mm depth  =  Government troops. 4 Inf,(3 bases make a unit) or 1 gun & crew.(= a battery)
80mm    "          50mm   "       =  Clans (1 base = small clan/2 bases = average clan/ 3 bases = large clan) Mounted, 3 figures a base.


Next is how we fit 1745 into the rules.
Clansmen are classified as Natives. Not slowed by rough terrain. May counter attack inf. & follow up win against inf. Can use skirmish.  All seems like Highlanders.
Ad Hoc units of Grenadiers are classed as Shock troops.
Government Hat Men (Line troops) can start the game in close order. Therefore can Volley fire.
Cavalry are a bit of a mixture  Some of the Jacobite 'mounted' units ended up without horses!  So it is at the player's discretion what category to place them in.
We also don't like the Officer disappearing into a unit (i.e. the one he 'joins') so we have a mini diorama on a round base. Looks much better.

I do enjoy messing about with the traits (e.g. Green, Veteran, poor shots etc.) as this makes the Clans especially a real rag bag of an Army.

I hope this is of some interest & maybe even some use.
