Title: Constable's Fallout/SSS Project - *NEW Church and Cottage p24
Post by: Constable Bertrand on 01 September 2013, 06:00:08 AM
lol not too sure what to title this thread, but here is what Iv'e been working on for my SSS based, fallout/Mad Max themed board.  o_o

SSS has rules for trolleys and stretchers, I figured a brahmin would do that job in fallout, so I started the plastic toy hunt. I found some cows from a toy shop for $9, and thought that was alright for 6 cows. well 3 cows, 2 babies, and a bull. They are too large for 28mm figures, but if they have 2 heads who is to say they are the same size??? So here are the rough 2 headed Brahmin. I need to GS the neck areas, and give them some stuff to carry.

Next up the wastelanders needed some sweet rides... and Blackwolf's fantastic  :-* Patrol car looked fun to make. So que Top Gear challenge music, Tamiya 1/48 WWII vehicles, styrene rod, styrene sheet, and a Revell 1/32 Eurocopter.

Great start! The two-headed beasts of burden do look like, well, proper beasts :) Any plans to arm those vehicles? What make is that light blue civvie car?

Cheers FATROC.

Pocoloco, its a Dinky/Meccano Ford Cortina. Here in Aus it would cost $20-40 from an antique dealer, I bought it on ebay uk for under $5. It was the shipping that got me :( ... luckily Mrs Bertrand agreed that I need to buy in bulk. :D

Excellent start, the beasts are obviously prime examples of Brahim.

Very prime, should get so e good cuts of irradiated meat out of them. We shall see how they last in-game... Do you think opponents will "take out" the transport advantage from the other team? ;)

Title: Pack Brahmin Update
Post by: Constable Bertrand on 29 September 2013, 03:26:07 AM
Having left the vehicles for a bit, I need the pack brahmin first for the campaign I have rolling around in my head.

I finished loading them up with supplies and tying it all down, undercoated then managed to start painting today.

My friend said they were huge! They certainly wouldn't fit through my door, but I am glad that a fantasy setting can extend ones belief about animal sizes just a little.

As always C&C welcome.

Those Brahmin look ace. Can't wait to see them finished. Doesn't bother me that they're HUGE. They are heavily mutated by radiation & FEV. Nice painting on that Hasslefree chick too.

Really liking yr rides too. This is probably going to be a cool project.

So the cows have been finished! And boy are they huge. In the last game we played, all 'special items' were random. This 'little' beastie was hiding in a car boot. Not sure how she got there, but at least she wasnt hiding in a bed roll, oil drum or on a book shelf i guess.  lol There was many lols at that point.

They came out really good Constable Bertrand, I had some cheap mixed sized plastic horses/donkeys and cattle from target, which I brought a while ago for just such an idea. As yet I haven't really started on them, but yours came out great, and I am going  to have to revisit mine some time in the future, Keep up the great work.

My only quibble with them (they were so cheap afterall) is the moldlines. I tried so hard to scrape them all off, but the bendy vinyl plastic has so many of them! Because it's so soft it's difficult to sand off. I found my box cutter best.

Well I need to add pipes, weather and detail the 2 vehicles. Finish weathering the ruins. Build and paint a halftrack (to be combined with a metal corgi ambulance?) Then I ordered some western lasercut buildings from aetherworks... That should keep me busy. Oh and I want a steam train too, hope I can find one in the leadup to Christmas.

Thanks Paul! I think it came together too. I just happened to have suitable bits for the job.

I'm wondering if I need to convert these into rust buckets, or leave them as mobile vehicles with only a little rust. It could be fun to paint up as a patina rat rod..

Thoughts?

They're nice conversions but way too "neat".  I'd definitely layer on the rust and general grunge.

I like the weathering on the 'added on' parts, but the original chassis could do with a little more, but dont go mad and make them look orange, will ya?

The aiyes have it. More rust to come.

I was thinking just a bit less than this.

Too much Paul? Technically the helicopter back is aluminium so shouldn't be rusting in that way, just the additional parts.

A wasteland trader meets two groups of scavengers. Using the Scavenge Skirmish Surive rules, the scavengers enter the deserted town hoping to find a serviceable vehicle and extra food and drink.

The first turn saw one group enter a nearby toy shop, score supplies and setup camp. The other group walked up the road into town, they swapped items with the trader to get a little extra food and drink. The other group came out the toy shop, walked up towards the trader and shot him once in the head. Thus gaining extra supplies and 2 pack Brahmin. The dice rolls were certainly in his favour for the first part of the game.

Following turns saw the groups checking abandoned vehicles and a few more supplies. Before finally finding 2 serviceable vehicles at the end.

A giant radscorpion and albino radscorpion turned up. The mutant and his dog companion ran into battle to stop the brutes. The albino slaughtered the dog and the mutan ran down the street out of town in fear. Thankfully a team mate was at hand to use a stimpack and revive the dog, turning again on the scorpions and killing them both.

The parties stored their loot at a joint camp before heading 5km out of town to Fi d some parts at the scrapyard. 3kms in and they were pounced upon by raiders. The SMG wielding raider let loose at max distance, causing a minor flesh wound. As the hand to hand raiders closed in the team's effected some quick barricades, and the turn when the SMG would have been the most effective, the raiders were on low power ammo. The raider boss seriously wounded the little girl, and she went down. Turning, he found himself surrounded, the girl healed and he went down under a fury of blows. The raiders pinned down, surrounded and separated. In 2 turns it was all over.

The party happily traveled the rest of the way to the scrap yard and found the parts they needed to repair the vehicles in town.

Yeah, I haven't played NV, but they could very easily. The local dollar shops have interesting 'farm' animals of various sizes, but they are too radically off scale to be useful or compatible together, and scorpions are a little hard to find. I could have stag beetles though, and snakes...

Cheers

I've got a Pardulon scorpion somewhere in the resin pile. Rather delicate casting so I haven't started on it yet.

As for you, I thought scorpions were readily available down under ?  :D
Seriously, have you considered a dried specimen ? I'd think that in a country where they live, it shouldn't be to hard to find one.
And if you got 'em roaming in your neigbourhood, you could always try to do it yourself : http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?218910-Dry-Mounting-and-Pinning-a-Dead-Scorpion (http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?218910-Dry-Mounting-and-Pinning-a-Dead-Scorpion)  ;D

Thanks Zizi, thanks for.. thinking outside the box. Not sure I want to trap a vicious poisonous beastie in a jam jar and then figure a way to kill it without using a shoe. ;) Australia suburbs don't have many scorpions thankfully, spiders? Sure, and deadly! But not Scorpions.

So thanks for the tips gents I may need to research those options you suggested. Especially "really cheap" ones ;) Cheers!!

We have found our pool of figures a little low for the squishy nature of SSS characters, so the next update will Include a few more folks to murder, I mean ... Interact with. ;) :D

I finally finished the weathering, adding a little more rust, and a splatter of dust. Also attaching the modifications the players found in the scrapyard on their last outing.

The Japanese vault-dweller Fumiko, and her bedraggled team found an old army truck in the middle of town which was reparable. But a flatbed truck is a bit boring, why not make a camper van? So with her sledge hammer and some finer movements they have attached a chopper cockpit and added a bed, stove and some storage cabinets. She has some plans to grow some veggies under the 'glasshouse' ... if she can find any.

Mutant Joe preferes a little arm room, with a tendency for making holes in things, styling his truck after a convertible battle wagon. Everyone in Post-Apocalyptia likes a little irradiated vitamin D. It certainly gives the citizens a "healthy" glow.

I used standard mineral spirits from a hardware store as a solvent but I am told turpentine works just as well.

Bought some DUST Tactics Axis grenadiers (heroic 28mm - like Black Scorpion 32mm) and thought they would just suit the bill for 'Enclave' type troopers from a fascist 'government' body seeking to unite the Wastelands under their leadership while eliminating mutants and gathering last vestiges of pre war colonies.

Thank you kindly, I enjoyed the vehicles, I have a 1/48 grief halftrack remaining, it should go well with those figures :D - just a little different to Steve's ICE tracked vehicle, the DUST tracked is a bit more old school.

The desert camo darkened up with the wash which was a pitty, it obscured the camo pattern. So a question, do you wash after painting the camo, or layer and not wash? And what of drybrush dirt/grime?

Cheers
Matt

For terrain and vehicles I tend to base coat (getting more and more spray based now), then wash, light, subtle drybrush and then weather with inks and pastels.

Does the job for me  :)

I tend to paint the whole thing as normal first and then apply any weathering after.
Weathering is also good for covering the bits that I buggered up in the painting process.

Yes that's what I normally try to do (thanks for the steps James, I undercoat in GW chaos black then basecoat, burnt sienna wash/dab, drybrush highlights, add grime, add rust, add dirt) but on figures that you paint lively free hand on, or camo, it obscures it all a bit. Have you resolved that practice in your experience?

If I paint on camo, I do no blending, shading or anything more than black outline.  I've just never got good results or been happy with the finished product otherwise....

I block coat over black, then black wash, black line where necessary, the go over the block coat and add increasing highlights, though for the cammo I tend to highlight only the really prominent areas like knees and elbows

Never painted camo on a figure before so can't help you  lol

But if I did then all the colours of the camo would be layered as per my normal figure painting (usually Foundry triads) and then some light weathering but not enough to obscure it. I would also imagine tht I would get very impatient with it and throw them back into the lead pile before finishing  lol

cheers

Some really great painting there. The Enclave types look suitably menacing, shame about the camo though.

I particularly like the vehicles. They've got some great weathering and look like true wasteland vehicles.

Thanks for the tips gents. I may need to outline the 'jellybeans' to get them to stand out more, or just tone down the dust on the next batch. :\

Thanks Wulfram, I've enjoyed painting the vehicles, and another is in the pipeline, and almost finished!

Whoops, double post. Oh well.

Following my Tamiya 1/48 Post Apoc vehicles, comes a german SD.Kfz.251 witch is quite bare of insignia, apart from that insignia ...

Hail Hydra! Only one could be so darstadly. Red Skull.

The SD.Kfz.251 was Rommel's personal comm vehicle, I decided to convert the 1/48 Rommel into Red Skull using a head swap from a cruddy plastic skeleton I had. Pitty the head is a little large, but the GW decorative skulls I had in my bits box were too tiny and were missing the jaw bone.

Cheers
C & C welcome.

Thanks. I thought the original 1/48 Desert Fox was way too thin. Having a bigger head helps it seem more correct against heroic 28mm, and gives him a certain gravitas. After all, he thinks highly of himself anyway, so he deserves a big head. :D lol

Figures are by White Knight, with the round shield being a scratch build from 3 layers of styrene.

I still think they are a little on the small side at 1/55ish rather than the 1/48 I am aiming for, and they are more 'rounded' but there is certainly potential there! They are quite different to the model of yesteryear range in detail/shape, but if your SSS/Khazakstanian nation circa 60's needs some other vehicles, perhaps they are the ticket. They aren't cheap at $16AUD a piece, but they aren't $40 models either.

You do need to cover eyes/mouths/bumpers depending on the vehicle - I'm tempted to get the combie after noticing one in this LPL entry by Rob

Chug has had some modifications.

The chassis is plastic, the rear tank is plastic but the front is die-cast. The front is riveted to the chassis, but the tanker was attached with 2 screws, very helpful. Unscrewing the back revealed an easy way to remove some parts (as they interlock) and glue the ones I wanted together firmly with superglue. A few scraps of styrene formed the armour plating and a few kit parts added some detail. I though covering the eyes and mouth in this way was much easier than using GS and sanding it all back.

Cheers

Figures are Joe (a 28mm Hasslefree "Joe" on regular slotta base), and Landon Ricketts (a resin Black Scorpion 32mm tombstone cowboy on metal washer).

The vehicles, (supposedly 1:55), have a variety of sizes and shapes. The 'larger' ones will be fine unbased I think, but the smaller ones will need basing to bring them up to the right level. I was surprised how much variation there is between them all and at some of the anthropomorphic distortions. The Porsche is particularly bad and unrealistic - and I couldn't tell that at all from the pic's online, she's way too 'cute'!

I've been looking at vehicles from that film as well. I do find scales smaller than 1/48th too small for regular gaming pieces, though as terrain 1/56th is passable. Its a shame that a lot of kid's toys are made to fit around that size (ie how big the box is), rather than something practical like something us model folks play with. Bah! ^^

I'd say use those as wrecks so that their size isn't quite so noticeable. Though I suppose with a lick of paint they may serve as some wastelander's flash ride.

Actually I think I knicked the idea from a blog here. Car barricades are quite an interesting piece of terrain that for some reason I don't see so often at events. I'm sure if people aren't cutting up pre-war vehicles for parts they'd be decently served as walls (well if you fill in all the holes). Then again, scratch together enough methane from some Brahmin dung and a bit of scrap metal and chewing gum, and you could have yourself a running Highwayman. ^^

Glad to hear the parcel arrived ok  :D

Now, obviously, I'd love to see them painted and in game!  ;) lol

Just to clarify for anyone else reading, the GS ear isn't a miscast as such but a pressure fault in the master, caused during mould making.  I have only just been able to remake the mould and so all casts of that particular model have the GS ear, which is talked about in the words and images in the store descriptions.  ;) :)

I obviously missed the notice on that page, who needs to read text when the pic shows an adorable lead figure? ;)

O I know the golden rule is to not mix scales, but that is exactly what I am going to do, with 1/48 trucks and the smaller 1/55 cars. Here's hoping with enough rust they will all blend together and look ok.

To be honest, because of the way they make cars, 'mixing scales' is I think inescapable.

Steve and MOJO give great service and have one of the most reasonable 'buy this amount for free shipping' policies in the entire field of vendors.

I completed the Disney Pixar Cars Sheriff for my Post-Apocalyptia. The size is alright on this one I think, so I am not going to base it. But the poor sherif has a dilemma now. Should he go home to grab some goggles before heading out on patrol???

Blinky Bill (Black Scorpion) and Fumiko (Hasslefree) setup some newly accuired tents out in the wastes. (They are vacuum formed styrene purchased from Scavenge Skirmish Survive Steve). They didn't have much detail to speak of apart from a front door space, but they painted up easily enough. (They are a different manufacturer to Dr Crazy Viking's "hello pussy" ones). Adding guy ropes would improve them vastly, but I kept them simple to prevent breakages from a certain ham fisted oaf that lives in my house and likes to break my toys. ;)

The set comes with all 4 tents. The variety of shapes are nice.

Fumiko found a tent in the Superdooper Mart that hadn't been used for half its life. She thought the safety orange went well with her blue vault suit and decided to put it to use.

Cheers

Cars Sheriff and DB5(modified) with Tamiya 1/48 Grief and 32mm Black Scorpion.

The Cars Finn McMissile was rather close to the DB5, I added some greenstuff to the front and plasticard to bring it a little closer to the classic Aston Martin. I learned from the goggles of my recent updated DUST troopers, and extended the method to paint the windshield and headlights. I would like to get some custom "BMT" numberplate transfers and "GB" made up to finish off Mr Bond's vehicle.

The Hydra Enclave has been spotted using Power Armour wielding rockets and Laser Gatling guns.

These Heavy DUST Troopers were a large experiment. I looked at some tutorials on source lighting (especially from Massive Voodoo) and tried to use layers to give a glow from the laser weapons and powered suits. It comes off for tabletop painting, but I need to be a little smoother with the technique and wont be winning any awards. Does it work? What do you think? Perhaps I need to blacken the end of the rocket barrels and show heat colour distortion on the laser gun. We all know "that Lasers get hot Daddy".

As always C&C is welcomed

Cheers
Matt

To Do:
Cars desert wrecks
Paint petrol tanker, MainForcePatrol cars, and Scavenger Combi
Paint Hydra Enclave walkers
make fencing
paint dogs
...

Roam away Wolf, but you'd be better off buying a DB model as it has more detail - you already have the maserratti and Bentleys. The Cars range is cheapish at $6-$10 each or in eBay lots, and there are some nice classic cars available.

Some have modeled eye lids, but others have flat painted Windows, either diecast or a plastic insert. The db5 was a flat plastic insert.

Just seen this, mate.

The info has been stored for later use.
After your comment regarding stealing my nephew's crap I thought that patience was the best answer.
He will get bored of them and move on to the next thing before I will actually need them.
It seems to work as he is gravitating towards superheroes at the moment.
Uncle Paul can play swpsies for some webslinger or somesuch.

The survey teams sent out from New Silverton have found a few more rusted pre-war vehicles (Pixar Cars Rusty and Edwin Kranks) on the road, scavenged of anything useful. Based on MDF base with Edwin receiving a minor putty job on his mouth/grille.

They also spotted an additional group of Hydra troopers (DUST Axis) in the hills around New Silverton. Currently it is unknown why there is so much attention by these chaps and why they are so heavily armoured, but whenever they are spotted they are always covered in dust.

I think I may have confused the issue, as I have two settings for my Spy-Fi project.
The main setting is the Imagi-Nation called Khanistan, on the border of China and the USSR.
The country is ruled by a Despot known as the Khan, who commands a fanatical army and has hordes of mad scientists creating all kinds of nastiness to inflict upon the world should his whim take him there.

The OTHER setting is in the South-East Asian jungle.
This is going to be my primary project for next year, as I intend to build the base of an evil criminal mastermind as a setting for a game at next years BLAM.
Think of the island of Scaramanga meets Tracy Island and you should get the idea... ;)

After attacking a Raider base, the heroes are a little perturbed. They flee leaving many behind for the raiders to turn into food and clothing. The Deputy leads the way back to New Silverton where the locals are not too happy with the chaos which the newcomers bring.

The main street of New Silverton.

The heroes arrive in their rig and begin questioning the locals about the whereabouts of their two missing kids. Tall Fiona watches from the Hotel verandah.

Pointed in the direction of the old Toy shop, they discover it's infact Petey the Kids lair. Petey trips over the rocking horse in an attempt to escape, his padre blows a hole into 'the Gentleman'. It isnt looking good for our heroes. While the Deputy makes some noise and doesnt do much, Fumiko rushes in, crushes the padre's head with her sledgehammer and leers down at Petey the Kid.

Meanwhile up the road, a 2nd padre jumps in the truck, finds the keys under the visor and takes off. Landen shoots but fails to stop his get away. Arnold fires his shotgun, wounding and startling the padre. The brahmin breaks free from the hitching post and runs out of town, Abigail dives off the verandah and chases her brahmin down the street. Dazed and confused the parde crashes into the general store where moments before Abigail stood. Landon and Arnold rush at the padre and hogtie him before he gets away.

The Sheriff turns up and wonders what has happened to his peaceful town while he was away. Our heroes are left to foot a large bill for damages, and have left an unsavoury taste with the locals.

Cheers
Matt

Ol' Landon Ricketts (Black Scorpion 32mm) has found 6 cute doggies. Wait, he may have just heard me call him old... he doesn't like that.

3 lovely Boarder Collies and German Shepherds. Don't they look perky and helpful?!

The dogs are from a boutique miniature maker Scavenge Skirmish Survive (SSS) in the UK, and they are sculpted by EBob. They are full of character and quite good proportionally. I did have a little trouble distinguishing between white metal collies and shepherds once they were out of the blisters – they are pretty similar (perhaps I should have left them in their zip-locked labeled bags after all) – but were easily distinguished by looking at the eStore pics.

I painted a few with blue eyes, and a few with brown eyes. Are they cute puppies?

My plans of hand painting small details proved quite difficult, so I searched for decal options. Company B, a 28mm figure/vehicle and decal company comes fairly recommended around these parts. The artwork was easy enough to setup in Adobe illustrator providing the guys with the Ai file. It was a simple matter of using reference images to create the vector art - ah Google.

A short time later, viola!

Planning to run a game at a small convention in October, I thought a spruce up of the cards would be a good idea. Hours later here is a sample of what I've done.

You are probably right Zizi. It would make it easier. I guess I wanted to bring some character/story to the minis, and using cards as a random team generator they act as a guide for choosing a wysiwyg figure.

I fabricated a screen from a computer terminal. How hard can a radial gradient, horizontal lines and simple text be? Turns out it was rather straight forward. :D

Those cards are great, mate.

Glad to help, I tried to balance the feeling of retro sci-Fi and western.. I think it's working :D Sorry if food for thought has just made your to do list longer, I ended getting about 175 cards printed in total. 0_0

@TBC
Thanks for watching and enjoying! It's nice to show my little toys to others who appreciate it ;) I'd certainly be open to sharing the cards, "officially" thru Steve or unofficially.

Wait, Sean Pegg is worth more points than Wolverine and Lovejoy combined  o_o

Love 'em really  :D

Perhaps less wolverine and more a musical performer ;) but some had to have lower values, and I'm still averaging a higher point value than Steve's (more are armed and less have bags) the real killer is the leading ability it's 10pts!! And yes it is weird! Thanks James :D

These are fantastic I love them.  :-*

Ive added some nicer pictures of my finished MDF shops over on my blog and OW thread. Here is a quick teaser.

Oh no! Feral Ghouls!!!

Perhaps they aren't too bad after all, looks like they just wanted their photo taken. That's settles em down.
They are Reaper Bones (picked up in the Bazaar from Vereeder), and I found them a bit of a pest to paint - the detail was not very high at all. But they were certainly cheep.

I also picked up some Reaper Bones Rats and Beetles, which Landon is using as target practice.

Silent Steve sold me some TAG mini's too. Steve painted one (which I changed the basing of) and started the other (which I finished) - the sniper needs a little more care on the face at some point. It was enough for last weekends battle though.

I said they would receive some love steve! ;)

Finally, after some positive feedback on the cards, I have placed them up on my Dropbox Account. Click the link below for either my old "home printer A4 fallout cards" (Files:FalloutCharacter.pdf and FalloutItemsEvents.pdf), OR the "Super Shinny A3 Colour Fallout SSS cards" (Files: all the rest people).

Oh, I didn't have any problem after my GW black primer went on. It was technically alright. The problem I found was that some of the figures are a little flat. The strumpet is fine but female bard and ghouls are very tricky to see what's going on.

Bloody hell mate, those look fantastic!

Alternatively just run some text diagonally repeated across the page then lining up back and front will not be an issue. Steve has backs on his file, and I do on my old cards.

Or take it to a local printer, that's what I did then it's their problem ;)

Cheers Gargobot! The beauty of architechture is that often things get built over time, from different time periods, old buildings are torn down and replaced with new buildings. A suburb and town is often quite eclectic. Unless it's Abu Dabi (or blade runner), in which case it's all built at once ;) so really there is a great versatility of all the available terrain options on the market.

Cheers
Matt

Even better : here in the old world there's even a chance you'll find (large) buildings with different styles e.g. the Town Hall of Ghent consists of 2 wings, the oldest in late Gothic and the newest one in renaissance. Also, some fronts are protected (as monument). One can only build a new house if it integreates with the exisiting front wall. It can be a modern house, you just can't touch that front.

Good point with that Zizzi. I missed that aspect.

Glad you like em TBC. I was pretty happy how they turned out. They are mostly based on stats for Black Scorpion western figures (DB Shotgun no bag, Revolver no bag) but the storms are rather damaging, so the board needs lots of shelter points. There is also a bunch of soldier types with bags (STALKER/military survivors). With over 80 perhaps take out the cards you don't have figures for, then you will only draw what you have ;)

I may be in the game ;)

Cheers

Which set is he part of? I can't seem to find him on the site.

I also picked up a box of fiddly little arms and legs WGF Russians, in an attempt to convert some SSU/S.T.A.L.K.E.R Scavengers. GS is still to come, and I ended up going back and pinning the heads/backpacks after a few broke :(

They're further down on his blog, in the post marked Dec 14. Also, I agree with everyone else. It all looks great and I can't wait to drag you behind one of the dumpsters and shoot you...in game, of course.

It's just a kitbash of a us army truck with a eurocopter strapped on the back. It's a bit messy and I'd do the rust differently now, but it's unique. Some WIP shots are on the first page of this thread - if you want to peek under the hood.

Also, I agree with everyone else. It all looks great and I can't wait to drag you behind one of the dumpsters and shoot you...in game, of course.

Thanks Vlad! Hope you had a productive day today on yours.

I am certainly glad you don't have a firearm licence! But I will be wary when I'm around bins >_>

After seeing some great Pulp Alley game reviews I thought it would be worth checking it out myself. A quick purchase of the online rules and one read through later I was ready to give it a go. Vladimir and myself discovered that we need to know the rules better. Especially multiple combat, dodging and keeping note of who has gone/who hasn't.

I enjoyed the perils and terrain difficulties which added some extra fun to the game. The initiative sequencing was interesting to make the action more mixed.

The Sky Captain (Reaper Bones)
Freshly painted and posted in the Future Painting Challenge. Posted here for completeness.
She runs a tight ship.. well she will when she rummages up enough cash to buy one. Lets say her last ship didn't last too long.

Trixie (Reaper Bones)
Another entrepreneurial lass has entered the town. So far there has been no trouble with Tall Fiona and her lads, but will the peace hold for long?

Oh yes, much fun was had. I'm just glad you didn't pull the out of ammo card and use it on me!

Things started out relatively swimmingly with my team heading splitting into three groups. It kept me in the game and nearly netted me two out of a possible five victory points, if SOMEONE hadn't insisted on shooting me all over the place. I did get the experience point for that one, though. It was quite a scene to see one of Bertrand's allies leaping from rooftop to rooftop, even if I couldn't hit the punk to save myself. Oh well, maybe next time.

Once we get the rules down pat, it'll be fun times for all.

I enjoyed the freedom of climbing onto the roof too. It was a hoot. I think we may have rolled too many to wound dice.. not much happened, or purhaps that is just the difference because we were use to the instadeath in SSS.

Thanks von lucky, apologies for the oversite of neglecting Reaper in the future thread.

Thanks Paul. I've discovered that I am happy with a bit of variation, and that if you base correctly that can fix most inconsistencies. But yes Reaper is an easy accomplice to BS. Though Malifaux ... Is a little too tall and thin.

Mamma mute certainly inspired Trixie, (when I saw your mini I knew I wanted one), but as a bones figure,  Trixie has certainly had a little more "work" done. I overheard Mumma saying her cousin was a plastic tart ;) lol lol

Dave, Is there a "to wound" roll on every "hit"? We found the game strangely difficult to kill after the vicious nature of SSS.

Having finished off the shanty town forge for the Lead Adventure Build Something Contest 2015, I took some photos of my entry. Pictures will follow once the contest is run.

I also took some pictures of other pieces I've been working on over the last month.

First up, I finished the Disney Cars Kombi "Fillmore" for use with my 28mm Post Apoc figures.

Next up, I finally finished some minis I bought from Silent Invader, one of his ScavengeSkirmishSurvive bow wielding survivors, a few TAG mercs, and a few Lead Adventure Miniatures - ie The Road, and Book of Eli.

I got a little excited with the photoshoot, and 'shopped in a background :D

My desire for robots, especially fallout/SW droids broke out in February with an order from "Brother Vinni". Below you can see a newly purchased droid inspecting my Moisture Condenser.

That wasn't the droid you are looking for? Wasn't expecting a Star Wars Gonk Droid?

He seems to be travelling in single file to hide their numbers....

Look out! It's a trap!

The Gonk Droid walked some alien scum in on the carpet!  >:(

Naughty droid, demanding to be purchased!!  >:( Only to have the tight fisted Jawas demand that for shipping reasons his "friends" come along too.

They are the "bendy plastic" WotC Star Wars figures (it's hard to find 'good'* 28mm aliens you know). I was actually surprised by their quality. They have mold lines which need removing, but the base paint job/dip isn't the worst i've seen. I shall rebase them and give them a "quick" tart up. I have a few extra in transit too (shame on me) to be used as District 9 Prawns with a wee bit of chopping and a splattering of GS.** ***

Cheers
Matt

*Space opera style men in fury suits and animatronics - not giant muscled power suit clad brutes

**It's the heat, and this infernal shanty town tile, its getting to me I say! Don't feed the Prawns, or give them a lift!

*** Not to mention the BV fallout droids which arrived 2 weeks ago demanding to be painted or the huge plane kit I was eager to build in January..

You could argue I'm rather considered in my multi genre approach, or argue I'm a butterfly that can't be bothered rebasing half his miniatures  ;D

I just get so bored doing one thing for too long, and Pete's and l's narrative for this game is ecclectic filled with movie/game references.

KidT and Frank

Oh you think so too? Good. I think it's a fraction small for my taste, but only just (width mainly, and it's rather easy to disguise the charictured aspects of the car. Plus the kombie is just such an iconic vehicle I had to include it.

3 Fallout droids are on my paint Que, and some pictures of the shanty to come once the contest is done.

Cheers
Matt.

The cardboard forge was pretty simple, but the coals and LED lighting was a little trickier. I hid the batteries in the nearby shanty. The roof pops off so I can replace batteries and turn the forge on.

Thank you especially!

This is great the glowing coals are a master stroke. :-*

A stroke that's not mine, I shamelessly stole it from another contestant. :D

And due to the fact that I didn't have a resistor on hand, there is no resister just 2 LEDs wired directly to one battery each. This way they flicker out of sync.

It also means the roof is detachable, along with the forge so I can access the LEDs to replace them if they burn out. Though that will be a fiddly soldiering job  o_o

Cheers

I've been pottering on some dice towers. One OW, one sci-Fi and one post apocalypse. Here is the post apocalypse one. A ruined building with Windows. Transaction complete, Landon inspects his new Securitron and Protectron.

These two minis are from Brother Vinni's Nuclear Sandlot range. Here: Nuclear-sandlot
They come in multi part resin kits which are quite easy to put together with superglue. I had some real issues with the Protectrons, they have very flimsy pincers, one I broke while glueing the arm on, another two snapped off while lightly dry brushing, and another broke in handling in the first game. Otherwise they are great looking figures. Some figures are obviously closer to the fallout game model than others.

The figures shape up rather well with various figures

It's certainly worth a try James, that could be just the trick. A solution which doesnt require repainting would be ideal ;)

Nice work!

Thanks Aggro, I've certainly taken to using your maroon wash over the face. It livens them up no end, i just need to keep it subtle, or I end up with a makeup disaster (see tall fiona lol)
It is a bundle of fun! I have too many ideas to make them all happen sadly.  lol But isn't that always the way? ;)

I've been having a blast with a resin kit. Ive sourced some matchbox wheels, some tamiya barrels, and have gone about duplicating them. What fun. There will be more scatter terrain in the near future, along with these mad max vehicles. Ive always been hesitant to buy resin stuff (due to cost) and been hesitant to "lock in" Barrels/scatter as I want to save it for the future. But now, I can make a mould and use it! Talk about having your cake and eating it too!

In the meantime I finished basing the super Brother Vinni Eyebot and Mr Gutsy.

More pics of my star wars stuff on my blog, or on my Future wars thread.

The interceptor how has a resin barrel for the back, chunky resin tires, and other resin stowage! :D Im putting together a driver for the interceptor, as well as one for a dune buggy.

Not to be ignored, the tiger moth will be a biplane, and it will have its original hollow pigeon chested pilot modified, with a brand new head. :D

I've started painting the next batch of post apocalptic vehicles.

I think Pixars "The King" makes a good interceptor. :D It's sitting pretty on some resin dune buggy wheels I copied from a the matchbox buggy, and the Pixar Bug. Lifting them makes them scale a little better with 28mm figures in my eyes.

I have refined my rusting technique too, based on heavy refrence imagery.
1. base coat colour/highlights
2. thin smears and drips of snakebite leather
3. Heavy stippling of Bestial Brown
4. Limited stippling of Beastial Brown/Black.

It gives a nice rust "texture" too.

The blue was applied first on the MFP cars, then yellow. I still have the faded yellow to apply, then red stripes, then rust and dust. But they are getting there.

Cheers
Matt

Oh ta, some don't work, but others do. Some are too cartoony, and some have too strong faces, but thankfully apocalyptic vehicles can have armour plate ;)

While a lot of my kits are 1:48 it's hard to find civilian cars in that range. The model of yesteryear and lledo are of a certain vintage that doesn't really work for me. The 1:56 ish cars work good for table space too. So I hope they work with my larger 1:48 kits on the table together.

Your forest wreck is in there too Paul if you spotted it :)

Oh yes...  ;D

It should be fun ;) the nice things I can see from the rules is that most of the car combat is hand guns, clambering on moving cars, skidding and crashing. With a little armour, or turrets or spike droplets. Very much mad max style. 8)

Not that I've played them yet, or on a small windy skirmish table. I think 'road' scenarios would be possible in between skirmishes.

:D :D :D

:D

You have some nice seedpod leaves /herbs which would be ideal to add to the base. Hint hint.

Would Pablos multi genre OW yellow base for the ground be best? Or a Russian Forrest Brown?

Well if every shot that misses a target hits the car, any roll below a four could result in a boom! Instant health check for the poor sucker behind the car.

Ok, especially in circumstances where people are taking cover behind them. We do t want magic bullets eliminating all the cars in the first turn ;)

Perhaps they take wounds too if hit. Each type of car in PA have health levels. As they get shot at, they go down, then boom.

Title: Re: Constable's Fallout/SSS Project - *MOAB Report p20
Post by: Constable Bertrand on 05 October 2015, 05:44:16 AM
I've been flooded with real life commitments and hobby time has been at a premium, that said I have been working forward to running Pulp Alley at MOAB 2015 this weekend and managed to add 4 tiles of shanties, a welcome sign, and a bunch of kill markers. Sadly I didn't finish the cars in time.

But...

Vladimir, Furt and I can report, WE HAD A BLAST!  lol There was a lot more excitement and more people came along to play our game than last year, which was a huge plus. Perhaps it was just my perspective but there seemed to be more people playing "participation" games than the previous year. And thats a good thing.

First things first, what loot did I grab?
See crappy phone picture on the blog: http://makeandpaint.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/moab-gaming-convention-2015.html (http://makeandpaint.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/moab-gaming-convention-2015.html)

There was a Lead Adventure table where we ran Blood on the Sands and Pulp Alley (post apoc edition).

For Pulp Alley Vlad and I went with leagues of 4 consisting of a sidekick, two ally's and one follower. Each game had about 3-4 teams playing at once. We found the smaller team numbers much easier to manage with more action happening on and around the table. Also the teams seemed less overpowered and more fragile as post apoc survivors, it's certainly easier to take out a sidekick than trying to stop a leader.

Each faction tried to enter "BarterTown", scavenge some supplies and muscle out the other forces. Througout the Day the Bronze managed to maintain some kind of order, with Mad Max, Officer Nic Angle, Vash the Stampede and the sheriff. So the answer to "who runs BarterTown" is...

"RAGGEDY MAN!"  ;)

A shot of some of the new shanty tiles. They give a great maze like effect with lots of broken LoS when together. I think a few more tiles would be a nice addition, perhaps with some more modular height/bridges thrown in.

Any ideas how to keep the tiles flat / box storeable, yet have extra hight in the shanties?

Cheers
Matt
Title: Re: Constable's Fallout/SSS Project - *Mad Max WIP continues p18
Post by: DELTADOG on 05 October 2015, 07:30:34 AM
The shanties are looking great Matt!

It seems the Basements are fixed to the tiles right? Then you want the add more highlevels with a modular amount of shanties, to keep it better storageable? For this aproach theres the best way to fix the stuff while gaming with magnets. I had the best experiences with thisway doing it. The bad news are, you would have been forced to reopen your already fixed shantieroofs in the basement!
If its possible you can glue a thin shhet of metalfoliage beneath the roof. That supports the Cardboard of the rooftexture in addition and makes it more durable against gravitybending with the time and while gaming with miniatures on it. All materila which would be placed on the shanties could be equiped with 3mm Neodymium Magnets to fix. That works great for all modular shanties and especially for small bridges and decorstuff to avoid slipping while the game.

Thanks DeltaDog for the magnet idea. That's a better idea than skewers into the foamcore which was my idea.  ::) Yes the lower levels are already fixed in place, and yes the roof is glued down too. :/ but I can think of something. I picked up some magnets the other week for a working door on a dropship (tau devilfish), but haven't done a thing yet due to putting my entire life in boxes, I'm moving Saturday fingers crossed. In the new year I'll be setup and able to examine the magnet shanty approach. :D

Ah moving and Christmas events...  o_o

Anyhoo, Life has a small resemblance of normality for a short while, and I actually finished something for a change.  ::)

T-50 Prototype Vault Power Armour.

Thanks guys.

I finally got some paint on one Paul HAHA

The next challenge is to change the other two figures so they look different. I've got two resin BoS to use, but removing the rocket fists and adding some kind of weapons system will be difficult. I will either have to scratch build a gun to be held in his meaty fist or have some kind of war machine shoulder mounted system.

What do you guys think would work best?

Cheers

Or guns built into the 'fists' should look good and be pretty easy to do as well.

Magnificent thread - look great!

Hope to see these in the flesh/lead/plastic one of these days.

Also give some some good idea what to do with the toy cars that the Little Fish have lying about the place when they're done with them. A lot of the toys have had prey hard lives already so shouldn't be too much of a stretch converting them into wrecks...

THREADROMANCY - IT LIVES

Hi All, I've put up a Scavenge Skirmish Survive Bat Rep on my blog with some pretty pictures.
http://makeandpaint.blogspot.com.au/2018/03/new-silverton-game-report.html (http://makeandpaint.blogspot.com.au/2018/03/new-silverton-game-report.html)

What a hoot, Steve they are some fast paced high mortality rate rules. We really enjoyed the variable turn sequence it made for some great twists in the game.

Some pre game shots of the layout.

Thanks Anpu (your PA work is rather inspirational) and Ockman for your replies.

Stunning table! I love your modular board sections, great idea. Are they MDF?

My first tiles were unsealed 3mm MDF, then a batch were 3mm acrylic, the next batch are rattlecan undercoat sealed 3mm MDF. I find my hill pieces have some warp due to PVA usage on unsealed MDF but only 1-2mm.

It is good for your psyche, ya know?

Thanks, and you are only too right.

Thanks Terry.

I'd have made similar choices mate, the turn sequence and dice rolls favoured me is all. I'm glad you got to experience the amazeballs of an assault rifle this time.

I think if we went the campaign route, any character that survived one game gets to not die but be knocked out and come back in the next one. Or each survived game gives 3 games worth of saves, encouraging our best characters to flee off the board rather than die if at the end of their saves. Or something like that.

Cheers

A very late addition of the projects I've wrapped up slowly over a long period of time. E-Gads.

First up some new residents to New Silverton.

These figures come from Mason's line of sculpting and casting with a small amount of PA conversions.
An elf receiving duty as town guard, and a new doctor/surgeron for the town.

3 Outlanders rocking a "native american"/"Bartertown guard" look

Next up are some LA Minis, they are packed full of nice little details and good sculpting.
2 veteran soviet soldiers that have survived the great war and have found their place in this new world.

Some Tunnel Dwellers, these guys are very rarely seen above ground and pack firepower when they do.

A supermutie with personal commitments that clash with his local gym's "leg day". He never misses arm day though. He loves those workouts. I cant remember what company the figure is from, but thanks to Blackwolf for the figure. It's finally finished mate :)

Old Asgard FM-66 Giant Troll w/Club that I repaired and customised. His left hand was missing and the stone club was broken, and his face was a little soft from wear and tear of storage. He now was a plastic orc fist, but it looks better than what i could have done with GS.

Finally, a few more vehicles are added to the motorpool. All are slightly modified Disney Pixars Cars toys.

Two "Chuck Hicks" converted to MFP pursuit cars

And finally everyones favourite - The last of the V8's

Raise From The Ashes Of Time And War...
THREADROMANCY!

So if a rolling stone gathers no moss.. I've gathered a bit.
But I haven't been completely idle on the painting front in this time.

I have had a few sessions here and there in the last 7 years.  Working on the band of cultists (check out my Star Port Thread) and these Asgard / Viking Forge 25mm Orcs. A few more of the hunched over little beggers have been painted. There is so much detail hidden in their little sculpts, I'm sure i missed some. These rascals will act as goblins for any dungeon crawls/mines exploration missions to be had by the Survivors.

These poor little sculpts have very poor kyphosis, the shaman may be better off engaging a physiotherapist or working with the blacksmith to reduce the weight of the armour.

I have been trying a combination of different skin tones and fabric tones, I think the hunched little fellows may be rather well to do, as I am liking the purple and gold armour elements.

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqMIQdWAyzxv7qh_hGe77b8F5BACAVICqURc0ntU0VdRiWu6jb_70hxfRM1OjeGxtRUK1T1siy5_Kb5YAbV8J53uAZGLZsRCwJ1CWth7j8JqMJrYFD4GuAlbcKa5zSoE2qdvyS14DHI3PZjiI_Dcj_Gy_B65kLR8mgSzD_WFKxsJl_SvIv1agU4YnqXxNr/s2048/GoblinsPart1.jpg)

This week as I was finishing off 6 of the above goblins I even had to throw out 2 pots of 1997 GW paint, they finally died  :'( Farewell Snakebite Leather and Vermin Fur. You served me well. Those hex pots sealed so well.

Cheers
Matt

Been chipping away at a few more miniatures, finishing of the Power Armour for the Fallout Verse. A Brother Vinnie Brotherhood of steel, and Brother Vinnie fallout heads on DUST Tactics allied power armour. They look alright together mashed up.

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh1Wr0fsVRsavs0XKTALkRx5WKWFtGp9bpzJIExDAMzScjiB52WIJxx2IHl78XhrZesgdNpmf-7Fv7krq3Ax-wA-MXwwRRQvkNZpGKJugRO_y8IZBQVwcWd1y1ZpoWBVDYTDDNEqg9bWNKaX6DTKZOONLkLGiXLWUI7LGuQet_MZKRojewxpZ9tz9UMHmr/s2000/FalloutPowerArmour.jpg)

The Feral Kid joins Max. Based on an Eureka Indian Children piece https://www.eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=9346 (https://www.eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=9346)with a bit of 80s greenstuff hair and singlet. Interceptor is a putty pushed Disney "Cars" the King, with sprue engine, resin wheels and putty front end.

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYvxXkW2C69sTzg-1uNxxTqixEgYkXAnwVBH8ekGfE-O9Pb-jC5j82_893wm_M_OocBGN93wGFxqqA0JolaOak3HYWIQsw5_OhWeUMdZPMXM5kfi9il4n9XxnJQ1WFzkKYjFa93Puav23cqkEhIfX3bjhqPsRQ_NwSk_IxnnjfbPjSt1VEqihm-FmLoRM7/s1646/FeralKidandMax.jpg)

Finished off the last of the Asgard Viking Forge 25mm orcs to be used as 28mm goblins. Available still new: Here. So a few more of the hunched over little beggers to join the forces. I decided to paint three of them with old 80s style freehand shields with a nod to the old citadel logo.

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnr8HbVBARZboCjEDbxMbLUtXGEPUhT-_2O_ejFPf-Yjp22RlVlr4__Vb18vfvDA7NmcNrZHtHqZiBrilk_Da0DVLzC4v1wYOcj52pOAm8vYFzVlWsRP78e_b04eXgJnkKos4C5gePW_wUT48dMbAxVLNTYO9S_Hf_G8GIMuajb_Eqr8LBJ1v6ESXBVtBz/s2000/GoblinsPart2.jpg)

Those Asgard Orcs turned out a treat, they put my unpainted versions to shame (still not done even though they are my favourite flavour of Orc....)

Thanks Paul, hunchy little grimey beggers with some soft detail at the mold seams and hard to reach bits/vague detail. But at a bit of distance they look good and have a more animalistic vibe than the classic GW comical goblins which is good. Not sure if mine were recasts, old ones or new ones, as I picked up 2 bags second hand.

Even in the distant future I'm sure you could get the lada up and firing again, they are rock solid haha.  ;D lol

Nice work. My particular favourites are the trolls and the elf with the stop sign and cricket pads (I'm a big fan of re-purposing old school stuff)

Thanks Bullshot mashing it up certainly adds to the Post apoc vibe, it was a bit of a thinking experiment to work out how to use it  :D

With a fair overlap with my Wild West project - same town - same people - different tech - below are two new buildings added to New Silverton.

After some 10 years the New Silverton parish has finally gained a new church and house. The local minister N.D Wolfwood is particularly happy as the last 10 years hes been having his gatherings in the local hotel. Which has seen possibly a higher patronage than otherwise but has had the downside of frequent interruptions to the gathering.

Based on some mdf builds with some extra bits and details added.
First up is the frontier cottage. Featuring a brick chimney and cork brick fireplace, and a small veranda out the front. I added corrugated card to the roof to keep it in keeping with the town. The church and house have added corrugated card to keep them in keeping with the rest of the township. There's plently of corrugated iron in town with all the mining and industry around.

Love those. The paint job on the rooftops is great.
