Perry Miniatures: Mahdist Ansar review

Hi, I finally succumb and bought a box of plastic ansar from maelstrom! All I can say they look stunning and are quit easy to assemble (much easier than Victrix napoleonics!). The box is filled with enough parts to make 40 Sudanese warriors from different tribes and a small booklet which includes all sorts of interesting information. I was so impressed I immmediatly made a review.

I bought them at Crisis ten days ago and I agree with your review, Belgian. I still don't know what I want  to use them as... I am not really doing anything with the Sudan conflicts, so I am still pondering the alternatives I am certain are there.

I was a bit disappointed with the amount of rifles, but Redoubt produces some nice spare ones, that fit almost perfectly size wise.

I will probably use some of the more civilised clothed bodies as Arab slavers in my Mbuij Mayi game setting but I also thought there were much more rifles included in the pack. So the slavers will probably exist out of a 8 men unit armed with rifles and a 8 men unit armed with spear and sword. The rest of the miniatures will dissappear in the cupboard untill I start wargaming the Sudan (no not another project!).

Great help that thanks.  Just took the plunge on plastic zulus, but next year the Mahdists will also rise.  Exciting times for colonial gamers!

Thanks for the review and photos. I'm thinking of getting some of these for a similar Darkest African application, so it's useful to see and compare.
