« on: January 17, 2012, 03:00:35 PM »
Does anyone make kits of WW1 1:700 ships? I've only managed to find WW2 ones.  :?

Combrig makes quite a few. Not cheap though.

Pretty few and far between.
Wargames South have just started making some 1/1200 WW1 ships, made HMS Lion, it's a great kit.

Master Box Ltd is proposing to do all the ships involved in the Jutland conflict in 1/700 but there's no time frame.

If they are of the same quality as their 1/35th kits, they will be stunning!

Might be a long shot but have a look at Comet Miniatures as they have a historical section (or at least they did last time I looked).

cheers

The only ones I can think of off-hand are the 1918 vintage RAN V&W class destroyers made by Tamiya and their HMS Repulse and their Kongo. The V&Ws you could use pretty much as is, Repulse and Kongo would require quite a lot of conversion work.

For the Great War, the established scale are 1/1200, 1/1200, 1/2400 and 1/3000. As things stand there's a better selection of WW1 era models in 1/350 than there is in 1/700 or 1/600.

This is the only reference I have for the Jutland ships.  About half way down the page.

Why the interest in 1:700?  Beautiful models but what do they bring over 1:1200?  Look hard enough and you can do pretty much everything in 1:1200 or 1:1250.

I'm wondering the same thing as Paddy649. I've got a friend who has a massive collection of mostly Navis/Neptune 1:1250 scale that he has been collecting for decades, mostly by eBay auctions. He could probably refight Jutland if he rented a large ballroom or basketball court.

I prefer 1:2400 scale for WW1. The potential gunnery ranges, depending on visibility, are long enough to justify smaller models. I'm posting a series of survey threads on TMP about this scale for WW1.

But maybe there is some sort of adventure scenario that requires 1:700 scale models?

Ptdockyard does a good range of WWI/RCW coastal craft in 1/600.
