Eureka's Senegalese tirailleurs...
« on: April 19, 2009, 07:31:39 PM »
...does anyone know how these scale up to other ranges? I'm thinking of buying some but need them to fit in with my other figures (Perry's Sudan & Dixon's FFL).
Thanks for any help.

I am afraid I would not recommend them. I have the officer and it is a small, not very exciting creature. If you want Senegalese for the pre-1900 period I would choose Askari miniatures:

I was looking for the later period and had to convert my own:

Ah, I see, thanks. I suppose I'm going to have to finally break the trend and place an order with a foreign company (and an American at that!)...

Luckily I am after pre-1900. Yours are rather nifty, however.

I have 20+ man units of Tirailleurs Senegalais in 28mm from four manufacturers.

The Eureka are half-a-head smaller than the other three brands, but are nice castings, poses are good.  That officer is easily the worst of all the poses, I pitched him.

The others are all the same height, but differ in 'heft'.  The Reviresco are the slimmest, next are those cast by Askari, with the Castaway Arts Tirailleurs the beefiest.

I think my favorites may be the Reviresco, which are also great value.  They have that almost undefinable 'lean and hungry' look to them, which is how I've always pictured Tirailleurs Senegalais in my imagination.

The Eurekas are close to true 25mm ( whatever that means) Quite wee. Nice figures but smaller than most.

Hey all,
A nice man from Royal Mail gave me a box with some of Eureka's Senegalese Tirailleurs inside today, so I can bring you this photo for scale;

From left: Cat*-Copplestone-Perry-Eureka-Dixon
As you can see, they fit quite well with Perry's, and some of Dixon's (their FFL are all different sizes anyway).
They inhabit an odd realm between 25mm and 'true  scale' 28's.
The quality is great, and there's a minimal amount of flash.

I also got the officer, mostly out of curiosity. He is rather pathetic, and smaller than the tirailleurs themselves. Shame, really...
